Ski/snowboard rack recommendations?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi there,

I have a 2011 EX with factory-installed aluminum roof rails as well as the crossbars and would like to install a ski/snowboard rack that can hold 4 snowboards. Does anyone know if the factory cross-bars will work with a Thule system such as:

I'd hate to have to pay extra $$ for another set of crossbars then have to remove the factory installed ones...

thanks!

I just got a Thule Atlantic 1600 cargo box. The rack people told me that the factory cross bars would not be the right set up because the box would not be centered properly. I think the box was going to sit too far back and the bars were not far enough apart. I think a regular ski rack would be just fine.

I have the Atlantis 1800, so I don't see why the 1600 would be a problem. Check out this thread:

the 91725 of thule is the right model to use because this serie is made for the factory and the thlue aerobars, they also come with the locks. Pesonally i prefer a box because there's no calcium on your skis or boards, i've put a thule boxter 611 with the thule x-bars to have the choice of the bar localisation, the fit is perfect and i can remove the x-bars easily when i remove the box.

got the yakima FatCat 6. my EX35 came with factory crossbars. takes about 5 min to install the rack each time, less than 5 min to remove. Fits 4 boards easily, lots of clearance for bindings. I think I could fit 4 boards + 1 pair skis, maybe 2. Any combination my mountain buddies threw at me it fit just fine.

btw I first wanted to buy a cargo box for my whip. The distance between the two bars has to be a MINIMUM of 24 inches for Yakima/Thule boxes to fit. Yes, I had to buy 1 external bar to get that distance cuz the factory bars are 20" apart. So that is why i decided to get a ski rack only (200$) and not a box (450$ for box, + 200$ for extra bar).
