Well i recently aquired a skateboard. It was a gift from my sister. It's pretty cool. I never really got into the skateboard thing (yeah i know im 2 old) but i thought " eh, cant make her feel like she wasted money" . So i got to learning. Ive been practicing since Wednesday. Needless to say ive already had some cuts & scrapes: This is from Wednesday This is from Thursday. I got other minor cuts and scrapes

^^^ I got most of my injuries from thursday. I was just Rolling down from a steep hill. I did it right teh 1st time so i thought id do it again no problem. I tried again but i lost balance in the middle of the run. I jumped off but my left foot's ankle hit my board and i fell onto my right shoulder and rolled down for 10 ft. By then i thought itd be a good time to invest in pads :)

skateboarding rocks. don't buy pads though, they're for women. however, a helmet is a good idea... but knee pads aren't gonna stop those broken bones. the pain is all part of the fun in learning :)

just remember to roll when you fall , try not to slide sliding=painfull , rolling can be painfull but also fun.

we used to ride trails all the time, i still have scars on my arms and legs, also tore up half my face once eating it at like 20+mph on pavement.

eh, i used to inline skate...that was way scarier then skateboarding (tried that too)...see the thing on a skateboard is that you never usually get that crazy with tricks because it's hard to pick up...we used to jump off of roofs and ****...i've broken an ankle, sprained knees, wrists, neck once...i quit a little while ago and my body loves me for that

I've skateboarded for years. It takes a long time to get used to it. Just wait till you try and ollie. Have you ever wondered how hard it is to pick up a peice of wood with only the bottoms of your feet? It's not easy.

Haha, just wait till you ollie down a set of stairs and fall. I skated for like 12 years but haven't been skating lately. I remember being covered in scabs, good times.

Hell yea stairs screw you up, last time i ollied an 11 set i tore off most of the skin on my palm plus sprained ankle. Oh and yesterday I nailed my knee on concrete after falling straight down off of a quarter pipe onto my knee...and now it feels like i have a gallon of water in my left knee. Oh well stick with it, it's really fun I wish I didn't quit for that year and a half then maybe i wouldnt have busted my knee yesterday.

well just got back from boarding. I tried doing an ollie but i ended up learning a b/s pop shove it. Oh and i ate some pavement when i tried the downhill again. I was going like 7 mph when i fell. I slid for like 3 secs but the pads minimized injury, only got 1 scrape. Im gonna ask my friend to come with me tommorow with a digicam. that way he can record everytime i eat it. Maybe ill upload here ,idk.

Skateboarding ROCKS, but I cant stand doing tricks...I just look for huge hills to see how fast I can go :) I have my trucks tightened way the hell up, the thing barely turns, but at 20+mph it seems to turn rather well :) I haven't skateboarded in some time though, I switched to snowboarding since I couldn't find skateboarding shoes that would fit my big feet. I snowboard the same way I skateboard...as fast as I possibly can. Neversummer Legacy 174 board, it ****in moves :D My next setup will probably be a hard boot alpine rig.

I find its easy to go fast if you swerve back and forth. I'm guessing if your falling off going down a hill your getting what my friends call "speed wobbles" where your board shakes violently and you fall hurting yourself. I just swerve to the left and right and that usually helps me.

I would try ollie'n in the grass, but NEVER give that up, it might take you a day, month, year (took me a year to learn while moving OK) and i've loved it ever since.

Well where I used to live(Bronx), riding a skateboard would get you laughed at then shot. But where I live now, every1s into skateboards or at least they used to be. You hardly see it anymore. I do snowboard once or twice every winter. Needless to say Im one of the few black guys round here that does it. The Afro does keep me warm though.

yes thats exactly what happens when i fall, darn those speed wobbles.

What i usually do to avoid the wobbles is bend my kness and try to keep as still as possible. Oh and yeah the downhill i use has a few twisties, ill try drifting to a 900 tommorow.

Skateboard? No thanks. Too many bad experiences with that damn piece of wood.

I do blade every now and then, and its (still) pretty fun.

can anyone explain to me how does tightning or loosening trucks come into play?? Does tightning trucks give you better handling??

edit: Today i was practicing the ollie. My right foots being stubborn though bc its not landing on the board. Sorry to dissapoint you, no cuts and/or bruises today :)

EDIT: BTW are the dynamics of the fingerboard and the skateboard the same??! bc if it is i think ill be able to cut my learning time in half. Though not anymore, Ive played with fingerboards since freshman year. Was good stufff when history class came, id be busting kickflips and ollies from my desk. though one time my board hit my teachers head and he threw it out the 2nd story window :(

Tightening your trucks keeps you from wobbling as much in high speed, but your turning sucks azz (because you can't tilt your board as much). Its a fine line.

It must suck to be a skateboarder in New York. My friend told me that they dont have many places to go. Here almost every city has a skate park that you can use for free. http://www.socalskateparks.com/parks/homepage
