I keep getting messages on my answering machine from the dealer to come in for the "six month checkup". I have an 09 V hatchback. I figure its just a behavior-conditioning scam to get me used to going to the dealer.

Is this happening to anyone else? What do they do ? Is it free? And no, I don't want to call the dealer and ask.

Free?

Service Manual says "check-ups"/service very three months/XXXX miles [6,000 km here, though the dealer is on a 5,000 km scehdule]. Oil change, etc to keep the dealership in business . . . er, keep your warranty up. A lot of the work is window dressgin - a whole lot of money for a walk-around . . . I guess ya gotta get it done, but not necessarily at a Nissan dealer -- just a "warranty approved" depot if you have problems and they want to fight. A lot of people just do the work themselves, and keep record/receipts.

fwiw, my warranty period is over and I've had NO PROBLEMS [though the sqeaky windshield has reared its ugly head on occasion lately].

Not free, Eh? I'm sort of glad it's not free. One more reason not to go. I do the oil and filter changes myself, and keep the receipts, and records. From what I hear, that's good enough to keep one's warranty intact.

Glad to hear you have had no problems other than the squeaky windshield on your 08.

I have 10,000 miles on my 09 hatch now, and no problems other than a mysterious slight knock at idle after warmup, which comes and goes. Maybe "piston slap".

I've got the same thing! I've taken it to the dealer 3 times, but it has never showed itself while they were test driving. If you ever get to the bottom of it, please let me know!

They are calling you to make money. Some of the things that are scheduled in those services are unnecessary. Do you really need new wipers after a few months of ownership? I only take my car there for oil changes. I don't have the time to do that at home. Other than that, if I need something fixed or changed that's not under warranty, I do it myself.
