Getting this out there, if you guys could, please help support this new bill that would use one plate on our vehicles in MA.

For your convenience, there is a form letter attached and the email addresses of every committee memeber.

To the Joint Transportation Committee:

I am writing to you to encourage support for S.B. 1637 which would allow us to return to a single license plate in Massachusetts.

S.B. 1637 would save the state money and resources by not having to manufacture a second plate, as well as eliminating the needless enforcement which wastes the time of our already stretched police departments.. It would also bring Massachusetts in line with other states that have already moved to a single plate requirement.

S.B. 1637 would also protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some fabricated and original bumpers. Many modern cars would also benefit from the lack of a flat-plate on the front of an otherwise aerodynamically and aesthetically curved bumper.

Finally, S.B. 1637 would also allow the state to finally eliminate the old "green" license plates that many drivers currently have. The old plates are often illegible, especially since they are no longer reflective after all these years, yet many owners continue to use them because they don't want to install a second plate. This would also help to reduce confusion and allow the state to have a single, harmonious law about license plates, instead of being the only state in the country that allows some people to use one plate while requiring others to use two.

For these and many other reasons, I encourage you to support S.B. 1637 and hope to see it become a law.

Thank you,
<your name>

As someone who lives in a state with single license plates (PA), I support this cause 100%. But this is really a petition for registered Massachusetts voters only.

I don't see these politicians doing anything if they notice the majority of petition signers are not from Massachusetts and therefore can't vote them out of office if they don't comply.

I'll help by forwarding this petition to my relatives in Massachusetts.

Good luck.

Excellent! I enjoy not having a front plate in the south. I never really saw the point of it.

I would help if I could, but I'm not in MA. I don't know if me mailing them would actually hold any water.

yeah VA has 2, and Cops love when you put the front plate inside the car on the dash. Dubbers often are the ones who do this because of the hella sweet euro plate their rockin'.

I would love just the back plate, I will probably move to NC before VA drops down to 1 plate.

I got pulled over a lot in CA because of no front plate, but then I told them to suck it cause TN doesn't have front plates.

They told me I needed to get one, and I said that's impossible, the state doesn't even offer them as an option, nor am I required to have one.

When I was at Fort Devens I had a local cop say I needed to get a Mass inspection sticker even though the car had Illinois plates. He also wound up having to back down and endetd getting hassled by his superiors when he tried to run the same routine on a company XO later.
