The fair police "acted stupidly". However, I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I don't know the events leading up to where the video started. The two security people should be wal-mart greeters and not security. The man did have a walking stick of some sort and was clearly disabled. No way to treat a non-violent disabled man. Not to mention there were hundreds of people around ready to knock the block off of those "security" guards.

If the guy would have STFU and stood quietly it is possible that he would have been left alone.

All that being said I think it's absolutely abominable that the media hasn't picked that up or has quietly looked the other way. Even Fox the "wingnuts" of wingnuts hasn't picked it up.

That's not the American way. F*** "shutting up and standing quietly".

LE will just say he was disturbing the peace and the judge will probably agree with them. If he was standing quietly they would not have even had a pretext to arrest him.

This from the Anchorage Daily News:

Apparently there's either a little more to the story or the security people are lying to cover their butts. FWIW, he was on private property, not following the privately operated fair's guidelines, and he was carrying a loaded weapon which is also in violation of property rules.

There's some dispute as to whether the State Fairgrounds are "private" property. They certainly don't mind taking (and spending) Alaskan taxpayers' money to operate it.

As far as the gun, they didn't know this until AFTER the physical contact was initiated.

He didn't secure booth space or a permit to promote his cause, so that's a problem. However, they could have informed him of this, or, better yet, let the REAL law enforcement officers handle it. There's no need for Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum to get involved, NOR do I see any justification for their laying hands on him in such a tenuous situation.

Granted, he's a bit of a crackpot. But so are the uninformed immigration protesters who disrupt business outside my office all damn day.

That a property's owning party takes in public funds does not mean the property is no longer private. Do you expect that you can march through any Iowa corn- or soyfield that you choose, any time you wish?

I can't see the video from work, but from reading the article at the second link, I'm led to wonder: what happened before "this is public access?"
