I've recently started having problems with my Z. 90 model non TT, When driven it will suddenly just bog down and the tach meter will zero out. Like something is loose, no backfire that I can hear. I don't have much experiance with this particular Z but I've owned a few 280's back in the day. I would like to know if anyone can help me pinpoint this problem. I had my mechanic test the fuel pressure and he told me everything is fine on that. I've recently changed the plugs and gapped them accordingly ( .44) and they are the Bosch Plat's. I wasn't sure if this would be a mass air flow sensor or something else. The thing that freaked me out is when the tach zero's out. Today when I went to the bank it just completely died out when it did this ( it started right back up like nothing was wrong ). That is the 1st time it's actually done that. Normally it will bog down and then within a second or 2 it will run fine. Anyone else had issues like this? I just got this Z less then 3 months back and love driving it. But my wife is starting to tell me it's a money pit. I don't mind putting some $ into it but would rather hear some opinions on what this may be so i can start eliminating certain things.

hmmm... so the car kinda dies then revives itself, is this an auto or a 5 speed? does this happen in gear? when it actually dies was the car in neutral or did you have the cltcuh depressed (assuming it's a 5 speed) does this happen during normal driving while crusising or whiel slowing down or while speeding up? forst thought would be the PTU but I don't think they fail so intermitantly

it's normally happens when I'm accelerating, hasn't happen when i'm in neutral or at a stop light. Sometimes it just drops and within a second or 2 it comes right back up and runs normal. It doesn't do this when the engine is cold, normally it happens after the engine has warmed up.

hmm... could be a bad coil pack or a bad injector, hard to track these problems down when they only present themselved occasionally

great, I can replace the coil packs myself, as far as the injectors go, I'm not too sure about those. I run a can of berryman thru the gas every other week and only use super unleaded. This didn't start until recently and the only thing I can think of that i know is bad is my electric harness ( to the coils). The clips are broken and dont clip on completely. but when I pop the hood they don't seem loose the connection is still snug. I called the dealer about this harness and I was quoted @ $500.00 for the complete harness. Wanted to know if anyone knew of an aftermarket that is just as good or maybe a junkyard that may have one that is in good shape?

yeah the harness has gotten exensive, if you can find a maxima harness at a junk yard you can graft the conectors on, I'd handle that before messing with anything else just incase it's just a connector issue

I've checked around and I dont have any local junkyards that seem to have the spark plug coil. I found one on ebay with a 14.95 buy it now price which I think is very reasonable. My question is, would it be sensible to just replace each one every other day with the new one off ebay and see if I can fix this problem. If it's not a fix this way then I guess I'll be looking for a set of injectors?
