Post

To start off, this is my first post so be kind :)

Ive had my 2013 G37 for almost a year now and have gotten quite used to the car. Now im looking to spice things up a bit ;) The trouble im coming across is the color! because its Malbec black, I cant think of any visual mods that would improve looks without breaking the bank so any suggestions on colors/mods would be greatly appreciated! Now as far as performance mods go, I was thinking of doing a bolt on axleback straight pipe, but then noticed that the bolts securing my cat weren't welded shut so I could possibly put a little space between the cat/pipe and it would be a lot cheaper producing a similar sound. A friends also told me it would backfire/pop because the space is so far back and exhaust pressure is high at that portion...just want your thoughts/opinions on this idea. I am also looking to get a short ram intake in the near future, coilovers/springs (havent decided yet), and finally wheels (possibly vossen CV3's).

Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

I wouldn't do that to the exhaust. It might sound a bit better, but would probably hurt the performance by disrupting the air flow and creating turbulence. Personally, if I was doing mods, I'd do brakes or suspension first. Make your cornering and stopping power better before doing power. When you do get to the engine, remember one thing - EVERYTHING is a compromise. (True for the rest of the car too.) Make one thing better here and something else is worse there. Depends what your goal is. The other thing to remember is that the engine is nothing but a big, heavy, air pump. For best performance you need balance. Tweek the intake and you need to do something to the exhaust to achieve the best result. Ditto in reverse of course. Good luck.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about in adding space at the cat....otherwise the R2C is the best "SRI-style" intake, IMO. Vossen VC3's are nice but seem played out at this point.
