Okay, I'm looking to replace a few parts in my engine to extend its life a bit, and maybe run better.

I'm also looking to not take the engine out of the engine bay.

What things can i replace, along the lines of a rebuild, that will benefit me.

My budget: 1000

eh.. its a 240, there's always s*** wrong. but right now i just have one main problem, and its the stupid noise i hear going anywhere from 15-20mph. it sounds like a card in bicycle spokes, or a really fast heartbeat, and it sounds like it is coming from right below the area where my shifter is in the car. I thought it might be the heat shield on the cat, so i took that off, and the noise is still there. It only happens at that speed, and it doesnt matter if im in gear, or just coasting. I thought maybe clutch, but when i felt the shifter nob for any connection to the noise, there is absolutely none. no vibration in it at all. but it has to be in that area, im almost positive.

I just finished swapping this motor and transmission in from my old 240, and it didnt have these problems, so I'm just getting tired of repairs, so I feel like replacing some parts for the future.

i just swapped this motor in about a month ago, and I replaced most the hoses then, so anything else. I'm really looking for a list of ALL the things, engine related, I can replace with the engine still in the car.

like.. pistons, bearings, rings, timing chain, vacuum lines, heater hoses.. can any of those be replaced without taking engine out?

Look, ok, if you have to ask questions like this, then I wouldnt recommend doing any of this work yourself.

Pistons, rings, crank bearings, I would remove the engine for.

Head gasket, seals, hoses, etc... can be replaced without removing the engine. But if you have to ask, then I wouldnt start taking it apart. Preventative maintenance is great, although, if it doesnt need a head gasket then no need to change it, do you know what I mean. No need to fix what isnt broken. Although, if you are to have the engine rebuilt, I.E. rings, seals, bearings, head cleaning and decking, pressure testing etc... then removal will be nessesary.

So do you want to rebuild the motor or just do regular maintenance? I lol at most things you post.

I'm sorry, not REGULAR maintenance but I'm sure you can figure out what I'm getting at.

If you would like to know what you can do without removing the engine though. Look under the hood, and see what you could get into without removing the engine. Seems like a no brainer to me.

You can do anything with the engine in the car..but it might be easier to just pull the motor. If its knock anywhere then I would recommend pulling it and doing a complete overhaul to 110% fix the problem.
