simple question...hopefully simple answer

i have always been able to free rev my engine as high as i want (and no i dont do it all the time).... but as of last night there is a rev limiter at 4900 rpm.... confused as to why its all the sudden there

not sure if i am exactly right but i know that if you were in 5th there is a rev limiter but neutral and down should be free rev just 5th gear has the 5k limit
