i changed my oil from 10w40 to 10w30 dino the other day and i was wondering if i just drained teh pan without removing the filter and added mobil1 or synpower would it cause a problem with the extra ~1/2qt of old oil mixing with the ~6qt of syn. 10w40? when i channge the filter it requires some disassembley that id rather not do again unless i had to. sorry for all the simple questions, i'm new to this. my old max was't quite so picky

edit: i'm doing this because after i put the 10w30 in i noticed some clattering that i never had with 10w40

Not changing your oil filter on an oil change is like reversing your underwear for another week of wear. Just don't do it.

Should not make any difference, depending on miles and condition of the interior oil passages of the engine. Assume you converted to M1? How many miles? Good service history?

Also consider you total oil volume is 6.00 qts.Dont overfill.

Some older Q45 manuals list it as 6 3/8ths of a qt but that is an error.
