I am running my SOHC KA with the romulator in place of the eprom. The romulator runs a back up battery to retain the contents of the rom, this battery only lasts about a year i've heard. If the battery dies, contents of romulator disappear, so it's a good idea to keep a spare ecu in the car just in case (well i do anyway).
I ran the serial cable from the romulator to the glovebox at which i can then upload new maps whenever i like. You only need to buy an eeprom burner if you settle on a tune and just want to run that tune only; otherwise the romulator alone is perfect.
For all the SOHC people, don't bother with the bikirom stuff, it is not needed.
One tip, buy the romulator that is capable of emulating 512kb rom's, that way you can run 2 maps which can then be switched by switching one of the pins in the romulator socket; i don't remember which one though.
