I was reading my fav Sport Compact Car issue (where they swap the SR20DET into the 240)

One of the feature cars (a 240) had a boosted KA, he said it originaly had a simple kit from CTC Motorsports in Texas (safely boosting 7psi w/out an intercooler), does anybody have any information on this or a similar cost effective setup?

I talked to SLY at NISMO in CALi, he said you can run no intercooler 6psi max, just don't get on it every single stop light and kill it every second w/o intercooler, you can run it, but be cautious until you can get at least a simple SMIC, or somthing..

why would you want to risk blowing your motor over a $200 intercooler settup...... not to mention the 30 or 40hp you'd be giving up.....

Tell me where you can get an intercooler set for $200? Even the common Mitsubishi Starion core with piping would cost more than $200. And new intercoolers with piping are around $800 +. Am I wrong? Not to say that I'd want to risk my engine either, but maybe you're refering to a very simple (even moreso than the Pulsar GTI-R top mount IC or Bluebird's side mount IC) setup where the pipe just passes through a box with fins that just has more surface area in order to dissipate heat better but is small enough to fit in the engine compartment (even though no cold moving air will hit it).

I paid 100 for a Starion IC and another 80 for the pipes. Then I threw down 10 on a 1g BOV. So for 190 I had the whole settup.

Also if your talking about Chris' car in the magazine.... you will also notice that it blew up.....

Wow IC's can be had that cheap? Was this found by "dumpster diving" (scapyard/junkyard/wrecker whatever)? Anything new is very expensive. I think in general intercoolers are very pricey concidering it's hollow :) granted there more to it than just the amount of material it's made of :thinker

Fortunately for me, where I live an Isuzu NPR intercooler in good condition can be bought for like $60-90, and I know people running 20PSI on those things.
