I almost bought Monte Cristo's "Cities XL" but the online play was shut down and I heard the solo simulation was weak. I'm getting a bit tired of Simcity 4. Would love for there to be a successor that has less flashy BS and more Will Wright-style management simulation.

EA ruins everything.

I was going to recommend Cities XL.
The loss of the online component is pretty irritating after Monte Cristo made such a big deal about it. They put all their attention into it and made it the game's big selling point. Then they pulled the plug after mere MONTHS. What a joke. Scummy move to pull on their paying customers.

Have you looked into Tropico 3? It's a more politically oriented game, with more focus on the people over the city itself, but it's worth considering. Especially since it's on sale for $7.50 on Steam right now.

SWEET. That's way cheaper than the $30 I almost paid for it. I loved the first one but it crashed constantly.
