I believe you need HID housing, otherwise you will blind oncoming traffic. Not positive, though. Try a search.

put a black tape on the top quarter of the light and it'll have a cut-off for incoming traffic.

don't do this... HID burn much hotter than regular halogen and you will damage if not destroy the bulb and possibly the headlight (if you have Silvia triple projectors)

But.....HID's already blind oncoming traffic even in an HID housing.

I have an active post about this too. Btw, I wanted to put HIDs on my triple projectors. You're saying I shouldn't? Someone else said it would be fine.

No joke. I had a stupid cadillac SUV behind me for 40 kilometers on the highway home one night, just sitting there with his stupid lights in my mirrors.

you need the projector housing(for the retrofit) for the HID bulb. No it will not melt your stock lamp housing.

Things you'll need to make it work properly:

-Projector housings (2.5" housings will work, so long as they have a LHD cutoff. TSX are the most popular for cost/performance)-Bulbs. You'll probably end up with D2S bulbs.-Ballast and ignitor. Depending on where you buy it, this will be the most expensive part. The ballast and ignitor are sometimes one unit or the ignitor is seperate depending on manufacturer or generation. For the average user, either setup is ok. You will need to wire up your low beam circuit to turn the ballast on as the stock lighting switch will burn out quickly if you run the ballast directly off it. Our switches aren't known for being the best already, so you definitely don't want to run that much voltage through it to power HIDs.

In the end, it's a lot of work. But the end result should be worth it. I've been rolling the RHD cutoff since October, and I have to say it's a sound investment to convert to a LHD cutoff. With Sylvania Silverstars, I get flashed by oncoming traffic for blinding them, I couldn't imagine what I'd do to them if I was running a HID setup.

On a sidenote, does anyone know anybody that has taken apart the standard Nissan projector housing for the Silvia projectors? I'm interested to see what they look like and if it's possible to flip the cutoff shield to change the cutoff to a LHD pattern. It would be a cost effective way to swap to the proper cutoff, but it would still leave you with the sub-par lighting output of the silvia projectors.
