Wow, just put in a set of Sylvania Silverstars and these things are bright.

I had a set of PIAA Xtreme Whites which cost twice as much ($70/set) in my old J, and the Silverstars seem much brighter. The PIAAs were quite a bit brighter and whiter than the standard halogen, but I don't remember as much of a difference as with the Silverstars. In both I did a side by side comparison after changing out the first bulb.

Now I have to get some new amber wedges, as the parking lights look quite dull in comparison

Just another testimonial for these bulbs.

Glad to hear you like them. I was thinking about getting some of these for my J30.

Do you replace the low-beams or both low and high-beam?

I just did the lows, I live in the city and rarely, if ever, use my highs.

Just bought the fogs, but I think I'm gonna have the dealer techs install 'em. Looks like a PITA.

Ill probably get a set for the Q sometime...... Although, the Q headlights DONT need to be brighter...... Ive driven a few 03 model cars (grand marquis, GTP, suburban, etc), and NOTHING compares to the good ol 94Q......

I would think that the Js lights are brighter than the Qs (or at least sharper) as projector lights. That said, the Silverstars are not just brighter, its more that they're a much cleaner light - great investment when you see these things on a dark road.

IF you can get the little plastic pieces next to the bulbs out (Use a long narrow screwdriver to pry the upper clip, through the grille to the sides, and the fall out). Then you can change them in about 10 minutes.

I have not perfected the process, since I have broken one of the plastic lense pieces. The other was broken by a rock, but the car looks fine without them. Maybe I am getting a few more CFM into the filter...

Of course, I don't have access to an Infinity service center, like you do.

LOL

Hey,

I have Silverstars on mine and they are great. I get compliments on them as well.

One question though, what do you guys do for the side markers next to the headlights? What bulb are you guys using? Like mentioned earlier, it is kind of dull now.

Thanks.

Later...

I had amber 168s, and they looked fine

It seems that they only sell them at performance (read: rice) shops though. I would think that Sylvania probably makes a matching bulb (?). Look on their website.

I was going to buy the Silverstars for my J30 but saw that they were only 55 watt compared to some others that are 80 watt. Do this not make a difference? How is the "blue factor" on these bulbs?

RideInMyJ:From what I understand, you have to be really careful with overwattage bulbs. The wiring and the headlight enclosure were designed to be able to dissipate the heat from a 55w bulb, but not anything larger. I used a larger wattage bulb in a motorcycle that I owned, but the entire enclosure was glass and the stock wiring was pretty beefy as well. You can give a higher wattage bulb a try, but the potential of having to fix electrical problems and replace headlight housings isn't a risk I'm willing to take.Jeff

Has anyone tried the Philips VisionPlus bulbs? I purchased a set of H1s and H4s from suvlights.com to replace the high beams and driving lights, and they seem to make a huge difference. According to the Philips web site, these bulbs are supposed to increase your light by up to 50%, compared to 30-40% for the Silverstars. The only downside to the Philips bulbs is that they are not DOT certified, but they do conform to EU and Japanese standards.

you can get an upgraded wiring harness to allow the use of 80 and 100 watt bulbs.

I read on a forum excellent things for the VisionPlus. They had the highest ratings. They are not available in the U.S. in 9006 size, so no go for my J30. :( ... I personally use the XD5 from Global Premier . I have really been impressed with them. People constantly drive up to me commenting on my HID headlights ;).

Silverstars were probably the best investment I made for my Q. I drive down to North Carolina on the holidays and road fatigue can take a big toll when you've driven for 5+ hours at night. The Silverstars help out a lot, my eyes used to kill me on extended drives. At first I just wanted the lows but Sop hooked me up with a great deal and I ended up getting low's and special replacement bulbs for my aftermarket fog's. Rain? Fog? Fuggadaboutit!

Might've been a mixup or the counter guy looked up the wrong car. I tell my buddies to go to Autozone here and they always set them up with the right bulbs.

Anything less than the Sylvania's, on an Infiniti, is asking for trouble.

Overwattage is not a smart move, and sure you can replace PART of the wiring, but are you re-wiring the whole car? No. So there will always be a weak point somewhere in the system.

Omar - I spent some time this week at SEMA with one of the engineers who developed the SilverStars, and she indicated Sylvania has JUST come out with a new corner marker bulb to go with the SilverStars - they look great.

Beware of the el-cheapo bulbs that promise "HID" performance - They're a sure way to introduce major electrical gremlins in a car that is VERY sensitive to little things like bulbs...

No need for pics - You'll never capture the difference in a picture.

Trust us on this one, Jeff - They're nice. VERY bright, and very white... Not that queer "ricer-blue" crap we have to deal with ever since some geniuses started hucking those $1.99 100w tinted bulbs on eBay. :rolleyes

Second on the Silverstars, and they are available in H1s for the foglights. I have had mine over a year.

I have a super secret project for the future which I will report in two weeks if it is successful. Stay tuned.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

So for those wondering if Silverstars are a worthy investment? The general consensus seems to be "YES! The kick major ***!" Matter of fact I recommend everyone stop reading this post right now and got cop yourselves some! Don't just get the lows, get some for the hi's too. Heaven forbid if you have to flip those high-beams on, those yellow halogen bulbs will look utterly disgusting next to the Silverstars. :puke

I just got rid of my Q for a Volvo S60R and I can tell you right now, Silverstars are as damn near close to true HID's you can get. Another plus for the Silverstars are that they don't have the extreme glare off of wet roads that HID's do. Other drivers on the road will appreciate that.
