Ok ok, i wont be picking up another car until i need to drive in the winter (maybe 2 years?) but im thinking of choice for this future car. i kind of have two types of car i want, and narrowed it down to two selections. i dont think they could be less alike....Toyota FX16 GTS: cheap, nimble, good fuel mileage, more practical than a mkI mr2 in the winter, boxy is foxy. Ford P71 Police Interceptor: cheap, big, i can actually take normal sized people with me on trips and their luggage too, plenty of power for interstate cruising, more power will be cheap, a certain coolness factor. sometimes i miss having a more practical car...

so tell me what you think! i know its dumb and ill change my mind before that time passes but of yer bored, post something... -Enzo

Man the police interceptor just has that cool factor about it. Nothing better than driving a cop car. Hit it. Hard.

the used fleet cars are cheap.

make sure to get an actual cop car though. They're well maintained despite getting beaten daily. I'd much rather have the Ford over the current chevy cars... FWD auto chevy...barf...

The insurance on a police interceptor is a lot higher than on a normal Crown Vic or normal car. My brother is cop and he had one as civilian daily commuter, finally got fed up with the insurance cost and bought himself something else.

I'd get the Interceptor just for the pleasure of seeing all the drivers around me each panic brake for the split second they think I'm a cop.

As the part time driver of a 97 Crown Vic (moms) I can tell you it'll get about 20 mpg, you'll never be pulled over for speeding, and it is rooooomy. 3 body trunk. Seriously. Go for it. You can surprise Civics too.

And you can problem pick up a set of 2004 Crown Vic rims cheap. They fit the car well.

Crown Vic would be pimp. I never understood why people buy regular crown vics, but an ex cruiser is cool (funny, I was just talking about this earlier today).

As much of a Corolla nut as I am, in this case I'd have to say go for the Crown Vic, primarily because it's RWD and more fun. Too bad you can't get them in 5spd though...

It's nice having a big car too, I like 4drs. If they were legal here, I'd buy a Chaser Touring Mk. V and sell the S14, to be perfectly honest. Drift cars are fun, but even MORE fun is a drift car that can fit 5 friends and a bunch of crap in the huge trunk.

I want a Galant VR-4 or Celica All-Trac winter car, but I'll never find either...

AARRRGGHHH!!! I just went on autotrader out of curiosity, after making this post, to check out Galant VR-4s, thinking "I'll never find one near me"...one just SOLD 300 miles away for like $3500, perfect condition. CURSES!!

And it seems the general consensus is: Crown Vic.

Get to it.

Get the Vic dammit!

There's a kid in school with an Interceptor. He's rockin the chrome center caps and spot light. Let me tell you. THAT **** IS CLEAN!!! I kinda have a soft spot for that car and it does have that coolness factor to it. Plus look at all the fun you could have with other people.

PS: Got any pics of the MR-2

Well, it really comes down to what your needs are. I've had both a Corrolla and Grand Marqee. Both have their advantages and drawbacks.

Corrolla:Plus:small nimble more reliable, better gas mileage.easier to park in the city. Better in snow.

minus: can't fit as many people or stuff, not as comfy on a long trip. anemic in acceleration in comparison.

Big Furd: + Faster in a straight line, bigger and more comfortable, softer riding, great on road trips long commutes. Plus everyone will let you pass them because they think you're an unmarked cop

- not as reliable. It's a fact. Read consumer Reports. (I have also had 3 full sized Merc's).terrible in the snow. Costs a lot more to maintain and operate. V-8 vs I-4) If you gotta park in the city, takes up a lotta room, not particularly good handling (you;re talking soft sprung 2 tons of car), gas mileage will vary from 10-20 mpg. I used to get close to 20 on the highway in my GMarqui's but I got 35 mpg in my Corrolla in similar conditions. That's a big difference.

If you don't have the big family or need a lotta hauling room, I'd avoid the Crown Vic.

I'd also avoid ex-copcars + ex-cabs. Think about it. they may have have been maintained better tan most civilian cars but they get used and driven much HARDER than the average car.

I think ex-cop are great in the right circumstances, but if you're under a budget, I'dseriously look at the Corrolla.
