Hi,
after the truck couldn't or didn't pick my car up twice, I've decided to fly up and drive it back myself. Now for the silly question time. Does the factory alarm have a motion sensor and if so can the car be locked without setting the alarm? When I get to Wellington I have to take the car onto a ferry to cross to the South Island and if it does have a motion sensor it will go off for sure.
Cheers Matt

Far as I am aware, the alarm is passive meaning it has no on / off switch. If you are allowed on the car park deck, you can remove the connection from the battery for the trip and lock / unlock the door manually. I'm not sure if the alarm has a motion sensor. Safe trip, mate.

I was thinking, would it make a difference if it was locked with the key and not the remote?

I live in the Northwest US and we have the largest ferry system in the US. We ride ferries multiple times per year and always lock the car and then go to one of the upper decks. I've never heard any alarms go off while riding the ferries, even in some fairly good storms. I hope that helps.

I haven't seen a motion sensor in a factory application apart from a Benz, but I've seen an aftermarket mercury switch attached to the hood. It was a convoluted mess of a remote start system for a car I bought at auction, so you bet it was fun troubleshooting that thing with the hood open.

Anyway, check this out from my copy of a 2006 manual:
