So my car was having a little problem a couple weeks back. I couldnt rev my sr pass 6000 rpm. So I decided to take off my silencer because someone told me that that might be the problem. Right after i took it off, my car sounds louder and deeper, of course. The car also feels a lot smoother. I felt the difference right away. The turbo kicks in a lot sooner, around 500 to 1k earlier than before. I floored the gas and before i know it my car was pass 6.5k rpm. The reving problem is solved. After a week of driving i also notice that my gas milage went up by around 2-3 mpg. I didnt know a little tube thing can effect the car performance that much. DAMN SILENCERS ARE EVIL!

Would you rather get a big fat ticket or would you rather sacrifice a little bit of performance and mpg?

Put a butterfly valve in you test pipe on a stepper motor...see a cop and close it half way and it'll quite down...just a thought...you can buy these but i just assume build it...

One of the guys in ATL lost like 43rwhp with that thing installed! AND I have also seen evidence that the silencer will accelerate turbo wear I.E. it will take a **** sooner.

If you want it quieter get a resonator.

Any unsilenced 3 inch piping is going to be extremely loud.

Funny, my N1 single with 3" all the way back isn't loud at all. I was shocked how quiet it is. especially at idle. But it sounds nice, real deep and angry.

The Blitz Nur Spec is one of the loudest exhaust, you would have more problems with that exhaust when it came to tickets and what not, but thats a nice *** exhaust. THats the one i want but its still on my wish list.

I just installed the Blitz Nurspec exhaust on my car with an SR20DET. I have a 3" dump and down pipe, with a 3" Project Silvia test pipe and it is loud as hell! I had to put my silencer in to carry on a conversation with passenger but my car has experienced no ill effects from this, other than affecting the spool characteristics a little.

PS. this exhaust is the bomb! It is beautiful and fitment is amazing.

I'm running a URAS RS exhaust a with 3 inch test pipe and 3 inch downpipe. Before this I was just running no exhuast on my SR. It's fairly quiet compared to how it was before but I'm sure somebody out there will think it's still too loud.

Right now i've got a Dual N1 with the stock Cat, it's not very loud at all. I've got a project silvia Test pipe that i'm gonna be putting in. It's resonated test pipe so it shouldnt be too bad. How loud does a car have to be to get tickets?

I run blitz. If you don't have a cat it's pretty loud. I love it though.

I ran about an hour on the interstate with my silencer in. Raced an older porche (smoked it) and drove pretty hard about 20% of the time. After that The little noise i was so worrie dabout because a big noise i was really scared of. The silencer definatley speeds up forming exhaust leaks!

Does anyone know how a HKS Dragger compares to other 3 inch exhausts?

I'm more into auto-x and drift. i fell losing thlottle response with silencer. also it revs slower. I rather have a silencer than tickets.

the N1 is more or less DEEP than loud (unless I mash the throttle) but the cops will pull you over if there is anything even remotely SHINY for a muffler on ur car.....its ridiculous

A friend of mine had a bullet exhaust in his 95' Prelude SE and was pulled over for noise even though it was suppose to be under legal law in Cali noise wise. Shiny exhaust and shiny car is attracted big time(he also had an Epic sticker on his windshield that might have helped make them notice him).

Though in general it's not as bad here as alot of other places I think. I dont' see THAT many ricers get pulled over down here incomparison to other types of cars.

Don't mean to invade the thread, but anyone have any experience with the HKS Hi-Power exhaust?? And I'm talking about the 80mm piping one, not the 65mm. I've seen the vid clips on HKSUSA.com and it doesn't seem too bad. Just wanna know if anyone had any first hand experience. Thanks!!!!

Man...I'm glad I live in FL where we don't have emissions testing and Nazi cops that pull you over for loud pipes/shiny mufflers. I have a silencer on my KA...but after the swap, I'll be taking that sucker off for sure. After reading this thread and riding with someone who has a 3" catback that's quieter than mine...I don't think I'll need it.

jersey has strict emmisiion laws, but i haven't been hassled about muffler noise yet. I have a blitz nurspec on an sr with downpipe, but i have a high flow cat. Its loud, but tolerable.
