so around this time last year i bought my freinds 240sx off him before he went off to iraq. it had a melted number 4 piston and cracked ringlands. i got it from him for 3k. so he basicly gave it to me lol, heres how it looked then

so then i started tearing into it and pulled the motor out and rebuilt it with JE 9:1 pistons and eagle rods

i then ordered a SR20VE head from new zealand about 3 months ago just now got it lol never ship anything sea freight it takes FOREVER and they rip ya off hardcore! but i atleast got the damn thing in good condition finnaly

here you can see a DET headgasket on the ve head in the upper left corner you see that large hole in the gasket is an oil drain from the head to the block that doesn't exist on the VE head so you'll have to tap and plug that hole in the block

and also the small hole in the middle on the head has to be tapped and pluged and then drilled into from the side of the head. extremely similar to LS/VTEC

i redid the engine bay with spray on truck bed liner.. it turned out awesome and seems very durable, i did the entire interior in it aswell but didn't snap any pics of that

then i dissassembled the old Work VS wheels and had them powdercoatedalso got a set of evo brembos that will be going on once i make the brackets

also recovered the old bride seat as it was falling apart looks alot better now

i'll have some more pics up on the ve conversion process as it comes along.

its gonna be a little bit slow as i've been out of work for 3 months cause of a bad motorcycle accident but i'm working on a big forsale thread with all the extra parts from this car that i don't intend on using i'll link that thread when i get it done!

here is my for sale thread.. lots of parts!!!zer...d=227

yup the head will work fine it just requires a few mods! but its minimal if you can do a little fabrication and welding. i will be posting enough detail to where this will basicly be a how too for NEOVVL on RWD block it should net me a pretty significant gain over the det head

it will be getting 3/4"-1" spacers to clear the 13" rotors and brembo's, that and the fenders rolled and the whole car repainted the same color once its running

Gasket looks to be a close fit, just have to remove some material around the water jackets it appears. Good luck with the build cant wait to see it done.

i plan too cut a hole in the firewall and box it back in unless i get the money for the vvl relocation plates. also i plan on running a honda ecu and distributer

gasket is a perfect fit just 2 mods need to be done 1 to the head and 1 to the block. nothing to do with water jackets . the gasket just wasn't lined up perfectly as i was holding it by hand. also that isn't the gasket i will be using i have an mls gasket for the build. but am using that crappy gasket for mockup.

Honda ECU, sounds like trouble, has this been done? They would be using their own value sensors, I don't know how that would correlate.

Why not stand alone?

Save yourself the headache and throw the Honda ECU in the trash. Buy a Nistune if you want to go that route, it's just like the Hondata S300. Or buy an AEM or Haltech and be done with it.

i will only have to change the ect and iat sensors rest can be ajusted in the software. i will be using ectune.. on a usdm p28 ecu i will be making the honda distributer fit on the vvl head as its not that far off. then all that is left is wiring witch is not to hard as i've made custom harness's before

nistune is a no go as there is no way in hell that a MAF is going back on this caralso ectune is way more advanced as had alot more features. http://www.ectune.com to checkout the software.

Ok so i made a bit of progress today and have the block and head ready to be put together. i should be doing that tomorrow, and mocking up the engine in the bay to see where i need to cut

so onto the pics.

so first lets start with the block

i'll put the size of the tap in later i dont remeber it off hand but this one required no drilling

then i bought a bolt that matched the tap as i couldn't find a large enough set screw

so i then took an chop saw to the bolt and cut the head off and then used the blade to cut a slit in the top like a big a** flathead screw, then smeared grey rtv all on the threads in the hole and on the blot and screwed it in till it was slightly recessed .

i then took the head and got it hot tanked. she's all clean now

i then started working on the mods for the headi allready had the taps and bits i needed. 1/8th NPT for the hole in the deckand 1/4 NPT for the feed coming back into the side

so i then drilled the oil feed on the deck with the bit for a 1/8th npt tap and then taped it about 3/4's of the way down the tap to keep the plug from going to far in as where we drill in from the side is close to the bottom as you'll see. my 1/8th NPT plug didn't quite go in flush so i just took a large drill bit to it till it was flush with the deck.

i then drilled the side hole on a drill press to make the hole a little farther away from the botom then it woulda been if you just pressed the bit in there.you drill all the way down till it hits that other oil passage and about halfway through it. then tap it with the 1/4 NPT tap till you bottom it out so the fitting will acually go in a decent amount. i haven't got my fitting yet but it will be a 1/4 NPT to -6an, that should make the hole and line of similar size to the feed that was originally there in the ve block

thats all the progress for today.

and for fun here is how the VVL mechanicly activates i used compressed air to there oil passages, instead of oil pressure obviously.

VVL OFF

VVL ON

i haven't had much time to work on it but i'm hoping to get alot done today. motor is pretty much fully assemebled short of some small accessories . the plan for today is to mock the motor into the engine bay and get the firewall cut and boxed back in for the VVL solenoids and distributor.
