Signature Guidelines

Previous threads concerning signature limits were requests for members to follow guidelines. With growth comes change and the following are the official NICO rules for signatures. Please follow them and adjust your current signatures as the NICO Moderation staff have better things to do than edit sigs all day. This thread will be updated from time to time and it is up to you to make sure you are "up to date" on current NICO rules.

1) Maximum sig size is 600x235 (including images AND text): Maximum picture size is 600x200 within a sig along with two lines of default-sized text. Text only should be no larger than 235px high. This means that if you're picture is 600X200 pixels and you have a couple lines of text you should be in the clear. However, the text is additional, the picture itself may not exceed 600X200 pixels. If you are not sure if your signature meets these limitations, ask.

2) Nudity and vulgar language is not allowed, nor is finding cute and clever ways of representing profanity.

3) Any quotes that are considered outlandish by members or NICO staff will be removed. Remember, this is "you" signing "your" post only and should reflect that.

4) No religion or non-religion bashing/statements allowed.

5) Sigs are not to be used to make political statements of any kind.

6) Banned members are not to be referenced to in anyone's signatures. What's done is done, move on.

7) Linking to another forum, a non-sponsoring shop or company, or a competing website is prohibited, so please do the right thing.

Please note the following when adjusting your signature:

1) If it's got a funny quote and it's been up a while, chances are it's no longer funny.

2) If it contains a picture or reference to an "inside joke", chances are it's not only no longer funny, but it's also confusing to new people.

3) If you don't want to look at other people's signatures while you're surfing NICO, there's an option in the User Control Panel (see the "Profile" button at the top of the screen) to turn signatures off.

In order to be even-handed as possible in dealing with signatures, anyone in violation will have their sig edited without notification. If you are missing something in your sig, do not add it back. Adding edited material back into a signature will result in an initial 1 day ban which will be increased to 1 week then 1 month with each repeated occurance. Continual refusal to follow this rule may result in a ban.

NICO staff will edit out large sig images without warning. If you receive an edit, then put up a properly sized image and all is well. We don't need you to post a thread complaining that some other member has a big sig either. You want to complain? Bring it. Ownage will be the outcome.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program

Question... currently, the characters in the signature area are limited... should we no longer go by that limit, and change them to fit 2 lines, even if we fall within the current character limit? Wouldn't it be easier for you guys to change the character limit in the signature area? Seems like that would solve the problem in one fatal swoop, and save you guys the time of editing signatures of folks that never make it to reading this thread... what do you think Noah?

I appreciate you looking for a solution.

The only problem I see with that, is that I remember when I had a sig, and it was split into 9 different pictures. Total, it made a pic that was 175x200. It was sliced, so that it had multiple links for FAQ, VQ engine, etc... Problem was, I hosted the photos at photobucket. By the time all nine links were in, and all nine img urls, I had exceeded the 1000 character limit. That's when I ended up paying for an iServe account, since the img urls were a lot smaller.

It would be really convienant, however this sig pic hosted at photobucket is http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m311 ... pycopy.jpg

and on iServe it is

http://is.rely.net/3-78-13555-l-y3wcNOU ... ErRFuw.jpg

So it would be really hard to determine how many characters would take up a img url, and what would actually be text.

It is something that I'll be looking at in the forum options.

FYI, in response to the sig requirements I posted the following thread .... my goal being a win-win. Hopefully this can meet both goals.

It should load up just fine. Avatars are something that every once in a while disapear when you edit something.

If it won't post for you, post the pic here, and I'll put it in there for you.

I "fixed" the sig so it's showing. Unfortunately you will have to readd your avatar again.
