Side pillars on outside of car question

i have a question about the side pillars on the side of the 4th gens. The thing that is between the front and back door... Can you take the black stuff off? ive heard that is possible... anyone ever done that? pics? thanks guys!

edit: oh yeah... ive heard under the black stuff is paint.. that matches your car obviously and if you clean the excess black stuff off it looks real nice... thanks again!!!!

Do you ever question the stuff you hear?

My black paint started to come off and I never saw any paint below it.

How about this?

Go buy something to remove the paint, some masking tape, and a can of exterior black spray paint.

Start removing the pillar paint and if you come to car colored paint, then voila! Otherwise you can respray it and be that much wiser.

I think the car would look hideous with body colored pillars BTW.

not just the black paint but the rubber like material itself.. you know?

Sorry, I don't remember there being any rubber material on my I30, maybe the Max is different.

It is essentially a black sticker, and it should be painted beneath. I've seen it done on a 95-96 Max.
