Side-Passenger Airbag Sensor

I don't know if it's a bug or if it's supposed to happen, but when I leave my CD case on my passenger side seat, the pass side airbag light turns on and stays on.

I'm thinking that this is because it can feel the weight (it's only 8.5lbs though..), and maybe it thinks there is a child in the seat so it turns the pass side airbag off?

I believe the passanger airbag is supposed to be off unless somebody 80+ Lbs is sitting in the passenger seat.

Yeah, but the light doesn't normally stay on..

I don't remember what the exact range is, but for the sake of argument let's say it is 5lbs to 80 lbs. If you place any weight in that range on the seat, the light will come on. This is to warn you that the airbag will not deploy. So if for example you had an older child sitting there, you would probably want to move them to the back. If the weight is less than that there is no warning.
