This is interesting. We all know that China companies make rubbish quality, but identical copies of BMWs under a chinese name without risk of lawsuits due to chinese law which protects them.
This is something slightly different called the Aurus Senat. It began in Moscow, originally built by a company called Nami was an armoured limo designed by and and built solely for use by Putin, becoming the Presidential state car of Russia in late 2013. Like the cadillac "Beast" used by US Presidents, it was a one-off car not available at any price to anyone else.
However, in a joint venture between Nami and Sollers, a slightly smaller, non armoured, civilian version of the Senat is now available to Russian citizens. It will soon will be available for export to China, Europe, and of course, the Middle East (no surprise there). They estimated they would build 150 of the '2020' models this year. However, due to units promised to Russian officials and ambassadors, all 2019 built models are already spoken for. Private sales have already taken a large portion of the yet to be produced 2021 models. The obvious Rolls Royce inspired design does not come close enough to be seriously considered an illegal "copy" and Rolls Royce certainly has no reason to fear the Senat will have the slightest effect on RR sales. The Senat is slightly longer than the Phantom, but the exterior is obviously a cheaper, thinner shell and lacks the unmistakable high grade polished aluminum trim inside and outside. The Senat interior leather and woods are also far below RR quality and luxury - closer to an S-class Mercedes.
Senat has a 4.4L twin turbo V8 (developed with Porsche) combined with a 40 hp electric motor that produces 598 BHP and is connected to a 9-speed automatic gearbox powering all 4 wheels. There is talk of a soon to be available 6.6L V12 that can make 850 BHP. The Senat weighs in at 6,000 lbs, goes from 0-60 mph in 6 seconds, and it costs 150-175 thousand in US dollars
In this civilian version, you can NOT reach out to the Kremlin, monitor private emails, listen in on celebrity phone calls, have a chat with KGB, or call an airstrike. But you WILL get AWD, adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring with pedestrian recognition, road sign detection, and Pirelli 255/55/20-inch tires This is S-class money and hopefully close to S-class quality so even if you live in a country where the Senat is available, the S-class is surely the smarter choice.
