Hello all.

My wife the other day was backing into the garage and took the diver side mirror off of the car. I would like to do the repair myself but am not sure how to remove the existing mirror. Do you have to remove the entire inside door panel to access the bolts that hold the mirror on. Any tips would be appreciated. Also - this is a power / heated mirror I assume there is a connector somewhere that the wiring for the new mirror plugs into. Thank very much

2001 Maxima GLE.

you got it. the panel needs to come off, then the sail piece will come off, a couple of screws and a wiring plug and off it goes.

it's pretty straight forward. look for small thumb sized plastic panels that are hiding the bolts/screws, undo the screws along the bottom and side, pull the plastic finishing piece around the interior lever for the door and it should come off. be prepared to pull a plug or two for the switches.

It's not nearly so intimidating a task as it appears.

Your wife should have no trouble doing it. Remind her that when she's done, she can sleep inside again.

Thanks all.

I will (I mean she will) give it a shot. I will post any questions if I hit ant snags. Thanks.

I had a chance to look at the door and could not find a plastic panel. The leather trim of the door just wraps around the panel where it meets the door frame. The only thing I did notice was a round cover (half-dollar sized) located in the door beneath where the side mirror mounts.

I just realized that I had the wrong year for the car. It is a 2002 GLE. Possibly why I couldn't find the panels that "180fan" referenced above. Did they change the door panel style on 02'?

just take out all the screws. Then for just about every door panel the bottom half unpops with rivet things then after the bottom is unpoped slide it upwards and the top will come out
