side marker not working

aight, did a bit of searching after tearing apart a j30 at a junk yard. apparently theres a light housing on the side of the car, the manual calls it a side marker. upon doing some research online, i figured out its supposed to be an extra turn signal light???? anyways, mine has never worked, and ive had my j for a lil over a year now. can anyone help me out and figure out why this doesnt work, or what its really used for???

On the Q45, not sure about the J30, the side markers just illuminate when the lights are turned on. They do not blink so they are not turn signals. You can verify this on your J by looking at the bulb and see if it has one or 2 filaments. Two filaments= blinker. One filament= no blinkie.
