Hi guys, just need to know if Q45s come with side intrusion bars? I need to take it to the compliance workshop when i pick it up, and thats one thing they will need to install if it didnt come with them from factory. If they have them then i save myself $300

The car is in the country now, just waiting for it to clear customs, then compliance it and then its mine!

I may be wrong, but I think it became mandatory to have those in the mid 90’s. I know the 94 Accord met those regulations and they did it with a year or two of the mandate so they wouldn’t have to redesign. I would think the since the G50 was designed in 89, they wouldn’t have known about the mandate to put them in the doors. I would guess they started to put them in for the 97 Q.

Hey Simon,

I'm also in Australia (Melbourne) with a Q45 on the way, while mine's not here yet I'm failry sure you will need them, Japanese side impact standards are different to ours and almost all 15 year old imports from Japan will need intrusion bars.

Since I have little else to do other than wait at the moment I've been trying to do some research on Q45's online but haven't found too much. Among other things, I'm trying to work out if the were sold locally. I've been told that they were sold here, although in pathetically small numbers and apparently were around A$130,000 when new (have a grin about that considering what I'm sure you paid for yours ). Gimme some details on your ride.... what features do J-Spec's come with, etc..... I really have no idea, mine was so cheap I just bought it and I'll worry about the rest later... I'm not quite sure if it's even the President model or not (has President tail lights)

Aha, just saw your previous post with pics of your car Si, I recognize it from when it was advertised on Yahoo Japan. Was a fairly good car if I remember correctly

Believe it or not, they were sold locally but as you said very few sold. I think someone said they stopped selling them here in 93 or so but cant confirm that.

As for my car, its sitting in the compliance workshop as we speak, haven't even driven it yet. It's just waiting for seat belts and some tyres. They had to take the bodykit off to get it onto the ship since its sitting ridiculously low. However found out that its actually got adjustable suspension so they could have just jacked it up and left the kit on Here's some more pics: http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/...19346

Got some info on your car? Is it just a stocko or modded?

Si, do they require you in Australia to retrofit cars that don't have those bars? I'm just wondering. Here in the states, they don't make you do that. No need for the added weight or expence here.

I really like the chrome line going across the doors and bumpers. It cuts the visual height and adds a bit of sleekness.

Hey Simon,

Although it's probably pointless now since you have the car, I have more pics of it in Japan if you want them (close up of driver rear bumper, close up of seats, closeup of front spoiler, dash, engine, some underbody shots).... you may already have them.

Pics of my Q45.... I'm reluctant to show them, but ok You see, I got it cheap cause it looks like crap, but WILL look very tough with some decent wheels with decent photos taken. The story (in short) is that my car has been up at auctions for ages in Japan (maybe 4 months, if not more) and no one ever bid on it, so the start price kept getting lower and lower.... I looked at it once when the price was so-so and then never paid it any attention again. Then a few weeks ago I saw it and thought I'd try and put a stupidly low bid on it, and I won it. It has flared guards but at one point a space saver and then later some different wheels that were hopelessly inefficient at filling the guards, so it really does look goofy:

BUT, trust me, it will look a million bucks with decent lighting and some bigger wheels. Here you can see it another time when it was at auction and still had the one decent wheel on the back... looks a lot better:

The worst thing is that since it will need some odd wheel size and offset I don't know what size wheels I'll need, so only once it is here and I measure it all up and do the calcs will I know what fits, then I'll have to buy some wheels in Japan (with a ludicrously deep dish, naturally ) and then wait for them to come over, so it will be a while before it looks good. Enough time to fix up that horrible bonnet vent, I guess

I actually wasn't looking for a Q45, but one friend has a VIP Cima, one has another VIP Cima (with widebody kit, welded closed rear doors, hot pink!) and another has a VIP widebody Celsior, so I have to catch up! I actually don't know if I'll keep it, to give you an idea on price, I've paid more for a pair of tyres than I did for the car The upside is that friend with VIP Cima number 1 bought an aftermarket height controller for it from Japan and it ended up being for a Q45.... 3 months of "what the hell will we do with this?" later and now I've got a home for it

Pics of friend's cars, for the VIP fans:

Looks a lot nicer in person, also cost next to nothing

Undecided if it's ugly or beautiful This photo was taken at the docks ready to leave Japan when we told the shippers to stop whinging about the ride height and get it on the damn ship.... he showed us. Also so cheap it was bought more as a joke than anything else.

This one is a stunner and actually cost what it was worth... it's an 89 Celsior with later model lights grafted in front and rear.

Lou.... when importing cars into Australia they have to be made to meet Australian safety and emmission standards, so one of the things in accordance with Australian Design Rules is that all cars must have side intrusion bars, hence they have to be added should a car not have them.
