I tried a search but couldn't find it... I was wondering if somebody in the 12 second 1/4 mile range (without nitrous) could tell me what mods you have, and about how much they cost. I have about 8k to blow on my car, and I want some speed.

I have a standing $100 bet with my cousin that I can make my 240 faster than his Trans Am (stock).

List ALL mods, engine swaps, EVERYTHING.

Thanks!! :thumbup

man i dunno if u will get a 240 to do 12 seconds on 8k.. but.. i would do a ca swap and then put a big turbo on it.. run high psi.. then redo the cams and all that good stuff.....

Well...If I had 8k i would start by swapping my KA24DE for a CA18DET. I think that would cost roughly 3800-4500 installed i think. Go to http://www.afterdark-tuning.com

And if you want to know about what to do w/the CA i would try getting Movingviolation240's attn.

I think they say the ca becasue it is cheaper especially between the 350-450 horse range which is what you need to run 12s.

I couldn't find a faq thingy in the ca forum... am I right in assuming is has more torque, and what is the base hp on it?

Hey... if the sr20det and the ca18det are around the same price (after dark) then why don't I get the redtop? it has more power... is the ca legal and the redtop not, or are they both illegal?

yeah wtf is with this CA18 nonsence? a downgrade on displacement from 2.4 to 2.0 is allready kind of depressing, but a .6 liter loss? and we're paying for it?

oh man... I can already hear the fight over that one in my head.

go to the CA18DET section of the forum and read some of the discussions.

This is a pretty good explanation of the ongoing and forever battle between the two :D

but count me in on the CA once the funds are better

The reason for the CA over the SR is because of the cast iron block versus the aluminium w/steel sleeve. At high boost the cast iron block is going to hold alot more pressure. Unless you have the SR resleeved, it will actually balloon out under that much pressure. You might be able to run an SR w/that much HP, w/o resleeving, but it would be alot safer with the CA. Plus the CA has a better valve train setup IMO. (8 grand redline is cool in anybodys book)

what 8k? I've never seen 8k. The only time I'll see 8 grand is when I get a credit card and it will say -8000 on my statement.

CA can take more power on a stock bottom end...upwards of 400hp, from what I've read...

Plus they are cheaper, a setup can be had for 1800, I think that was even at afterdark...

CA18det - $1800.00Turbo goodies - $5000.00Using 8 grand to win a hundred dollar bet - priceless (and very backward).

yeah, after reading all the insightfull info on that page - i think that the CA's iron block, easily tunable ecu, and more advanced intake + valve system make it a better choice over the SR.

how good would a CA swap do in a S14?

would it be an easy fit?

My engine has been leaking oil ever since I put in Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.. I want to get rid of it now =)

well, i have a new-found respect for the CA....but imma get a SR because im not interested in huge horsepower.....but in the 300 range.also the one thing i hated most about my S13 is finding parts and with all the attention the SR is getting that is becoming easier. even for the KA now.......but for the CA not yet it guess.

hmm, ca or sr with 8K? how about this acronym: KA24DET

if your engine has low miles on it, 8K should make a ka a good turbo motor. and its leagle. you will make the trans am cry, makes sure we hear about that also =) with the extra displacement you will have more torque also. someone around here i think runs 10's in his turbo ka? i cant remember exactly, i just remember seeing dyno sheets that were very impressive =)

this is more like a question...wouldnt he want the lower red line if he is going for quarter mile and 0-60 time, as opposed to the higher redline that will provide more top speed? or will the higher redline keep the turbo spooled for longer?

lower redline means more shifting. : ) Although the torque helps in the quarter mile.

Oh, also, I didn't read the whole post, just the last comment, so I have no idea if that makes sense.

The story goes that my cuz was gonna get a 240, then changes him mind to a Trans Am, because it was faster. I bet him $100 that I could get my car to go faster than his TA for about the same price he payed. I was gonna get my car that fast anyway, but now I get $100 for it:ylsuper.

The only problem is that I have 167k miles on mine... Maybe I could swap for a newer one with a turbo... because that whole illegal thing does bother me a bit.

well which ever motor you go with, if you tune it correctly you should be able to beat the TA. also you can loose some weight (like the back seat, and any other things you dont need). well what ever man good luck you show that TA who is boss.

240s are better :rockon

talk to afterdark about buying a refurbished ka motor ready for turbo with redone internals, injectors and whatnot. u might end up spending more than 8K, after brakes/suspension (which would be a nice thing to have if you plan on putting 300+ under the hood =)

take a look at that thread, there is also this link which has a list of everything he has put in his car (dont forget to look at those numbers =)

a turbo kit, you have probably seen this
