Well, Ive searched off and on for the past few months of if this is normal or not...

Anytime I let off the gas, I get alot of popping in my exhaust... under acceleration, its smooth as a babys butt, clean slightly building roar all the way to 6.5. I mean its a killer popping noise if I let off, and especially if Im just sitting there revving it and let the revs fall.

I'm running 2.5" headerback exhaust, no cat, custom mandrel bent, to a generic canister style muffler with silencer. Could it be the lack of a cat causing this? Is that natural?

Ive replaced plugs, wires, all of that. Could it be o2 sensor going bad? Timing? Im just ready to get this fixed, it annoys the piss out me.

thats your problem, without the cat you will have a lot more backpressure, and if your motor is stock, that exhaust is too big so thats even more backpressure, thats why you are getting a popping noise when you let off the gas.

if you throw a cat in i wouldnt be suprised if it went away.

You mean without the cat I will have LESS backpressure?

without the cat you will have almost no backpressure which could make the popping sound, IMO the popping sounds good, but yeah it could be the ignition timing in which case you should try and fix it. distributor caps can get old and start missing beats which can make that sound.

small afterfires of unburnt fuel. thats what causes the popping. with a cat, it burns off the fuel before it can ignite in the exhaust.
