ok guys, i've been sick since wednesday now, and i'm really not gettin mcuh better!!! granted my fever of 102+ (never actually measured but i'm sure it was that high) is down to a measly 99 or so...it's still measureable by touch and everyone that checks me says "omg ur really warm" so i'm taking that as my fever bein pretty bad...n now my worst problem!

i have a throat/mouth infection, at first it was a sore throat from breathing through my mouth...and then my throat (exterior) became really tender on the right side...and then swollen, and then my gums followed suite and slowly from the right side molars, aroudn the front, and back around the other side, my gums started to swell up farly badly...very sensitive to the touch, cannot eat much food...my current state stands as this

*temperature of around 99-100 (estimation)*gums swollen in all areas*fever blisters on exterior of lip as well as interior, also on tongue *sore throat, feels like strept throat possibly*having issues swallowing my own spit even

what should i do?

i've been gargling w/ salt water and listerine, also taking tylenol on a regular basis but nothin has changed since saturday morning!

this is hell and now i cant eat ANYTHING practically...my throat hurts to swallow water...

Ummmm, just going out on a limb here, but why don't you go see a doctor?

Asking for medical advice on the internet is probably not your best course of action.

You could wait and it might go away, OR it may get worse and you'll find yourself in the hospital.

Personally, I'd call my doctor first thing Monday morning.

If you're really having trouble swallowing, you might need some antibiotics. Find a thermometer and take your temperature too. If you feel like utter crap tomorrow, a quick visit to the doctor is probably you're best bet.

Get some sleep!

I had something similar a while ago, felt like strept throat and I couldn't swallow, except my gums didnt swell and I didn't get fever blisters. I also had nausea and almost fainted when I stood up. Ok, so maybe our sicknessed are completely different. Bottom line, I went to the doctor and he told me to just wait it out. That might be the case for you, but I'd go to a doctor if I were you.

Also, saltine crackers + 7up = ultimate sickness cure.

mono also makes you feel really tired... is that another one of your symptoms?

I donno though, I'm an EMT but not a doctor.. lol if you called the medics right now I'll tell you what they'd do- TAKE YOU TO A DOCTOR! haha Man just go, get some antibiotics (probably Zithromax or somethin like that) and you'll be all good in a week.

^^Exactly why we have so many antibiotic-resistant strands of bacteria floating around now. They're only good if properly used.

(I'm not bashing on you Fiz, trust me)

Sounds like mono or strep throat. Either can be very, very serious if left untreated and if it does not appear to be "healing". Please go see a doctor and get anti-biotics asap if it is an infection.

Bad throat infections have a terrible habit of spreading to other areas - like your upper sinusses, larynx, ears, etc. and it can happen fairly rapidly. In absolute worst case scenarios (admittedly low probability), it can spread to your brain and upper spinal cord.

You simply do NOT want to take a risk like this! Get it checked out immediately.

Have you taken any kind of medicine? Even if its from the store it would help but you should go to the doctor. You wait any longer and it will get worse if not taken care of.

As for food, try some crackers, soup, or some chicken broth or such. That seems like it worked for me. (soup wise dont care for broth). :)

lol yeah I know, you're definetly right... but thats what the Doc is gonna do anyways. I guess it's "not our problem" if the consequences are far enough in the future, right? :(

Rub some dirt in it and get back on the field, soldier!

Actually, i do 2000mg of Vitamin C and a couple zinc tabs (plus a couple gallons of Gatorade a day) when i get sick - Ususally works just as fast as medication...

2000mg Greg??? Please tell me that was a typo. Zinc works wonders, especially those zinc coughdrops...

Nope - 2000mg.

You can't OD on VC - Your body will use what it needs and excrete the rest, and ultra-high doses of VC have been shown to signifiantly strengthen a weakened immune system, especially when dealing with a virus (which is resistant to antibiotics).

Zinc is great too. Keep some on hand during cold and flu season.
