I'm new to the forum, but i have a question. My car seems to have a compression problem. I cant find the equipment needed to test compression ,and i dont want to take it to a mechanic because i have to spend the next 2 weeks figuering out what he had done. I think my head gasket is shot. But not to sure. My car has always been a hot head, replaced all hoses, water pump, thermostat, and bypassed heater core, also new radiator resivior and radiator cap. Coolant seems to disapear from my resivior after it runs hot for a moment. Also when i rev the engine with the radiator cap off, the coolant comes out. But the coolant is still bright green. Ive checked the oil for water and the water for oil and niether is mixed. Also it feels like it has a rythmic shake to it, it was parked all day untill i had to leave for work, and i cranked the ignition and the car started to shake, and tons of white smoke came out the exhaust. Any info you may have will be greatful. O and the one time i did break down to take it to the shop, they pressure checked the head, and said it was fine, that was 2 weeks ago.

hmph after better searching during the day time, i found that the spark plug on the second cylender was extremly loose. and was leaking what looked to be oil but smelt like gas. would this cause white smoke? i know it would cause it to shake from misfire.

Mission: Improbible..... Upon having no doubts the nature of the problem... the head gasket, i began the attempt to change... bought, gasket sealent (not for head gasket) bought manifold gasket and bought valve cover gasket. Just as i was prepared to start disconnecting and undoing, i realized that 2 screws on my valve cover just kept turning and turning and turning and vola there stripped, no way of getting them out. At that point a pipe bomb and about 20ft of cannon fuse would of been great but.... i like my car too much... just not its sense of humor. Anyways, any ideas on how to get those pesky stripped bolts off... there adjacent from each other which makes it more of a pain.

compression check complete #1 -110 lbs... #2 125lbs...#3 140-149lbs ...#4 135lbs.... oil found in #3.. diagnosis- blown head gasket. Decided not to preform surgeryon the head gasket, so sent it to the shop.. estimate - $400 - $2000... bummer, but hopefully it will regain working order...... its got 160k on the engine. so...

Holy cow, any time I see 130's in anything for compression, it's a toasted motor.

Did you do the compression test right? Long ago, I used to do the compression test wrong - 80% throttle, not WOT to the floor. Of course, my results were skewed about 20 psi off.

If done correctly, might as well source another engine.

lowest carmax rate..... 207 monthly and that includes a stereo / cd tower upgrade plus a 40k mile warranty..... not to shabby i think..... got 3 more days to trade in if i dont like.. no questions asked... but id say, i prefer the 95 over that pain of an 89......
