shut off while driving
96 nissan maxima se, while driving in stop and go traffic car shuts off out of no where, with out warning. But starts right back up must rev it up a few times for it to stay running then runs fine for a while then does it again.

how many miles on the car?
could be fuel related...coud be ignition...
what have you checked, what have you replaced recently?

My 1995 Nissan Maxima SE does exactly the same thing. Thankfully I have a check engine light on and I figured out the code to be P0505 i.e. Idle air control valve (IACV) malfunction.victormotorsports wrote:96 nissan maxima se, while driving in stop and go traffic car shuts off out of no where, with out warning. In stop and go traffic when you hit the break does the rpm fall significantly? Do you have a check engine light on? Try getting the code.
Try cleaning the IACV if not replacing it. I have decided to replace it and looking around for used ones. New ones are 150$ at autozone.
