I hate to ask what's probably a dumb question, but I wanted to double check this before I spend $60 to $70 on a new pair of rotors.

I've got a shudder in the front end at speeds between 55 and 65 mph (only in that speed range), and occasional grinding when braking, again in the front. I just had an alignment done, and the tie rods look fine. The tech at the alignment place told me that the rotors need to just straight up be replaced. I took a look at them this afternoon and they appear to be OK, but when spinning the wheels by hand, there are areas that offer more resistance when rotating than others, on both passenger and driver side on the front.

Is the tech right and the rotors just need to be replaced, or is there something else I should check first?

Thanks,

have you done any hard braking in it? your rotors could be warped which would give you the Resistance in different areas while rotating and the shuddering while driving.. Mine does the same thing. I have noticed that it only does it at certain speeds as well and my brakes are done. i have new rotors and brakes all around for it i just need to put them on.

It could be the rotors but I'd be more suspect of wheel balancing.

well the shaking is from you front wheels being out of balance and the suggestion of replacing the rotor can be two things. it maybe under spec. or it can be worn out unevenly and would take too much surface material off after machining that the rotors will be under spec. have him re-balance all of the wheels and you can replace your rotors and pads or just have him do it. good luck

If you tap the brakes do you feel it in your brake pedal? Or does it have a whobble in the steering wheel? Get your front tires balanced and make sure the wheel isnt bent. If you feel pulsing in you brake pedal you need new rotors, or at least have them cut (if they can be)
