I want to drop the shroud, rather than try to reach inside that little opening to change the oil and filter. I want to take a good look up there since I just bought this car a week ago. The dealer tells me that the shroud is held on by about 14 screws and at least one clip. I read the forum back posts about oil changes, but missed any mention of a plastic clip. Can someone tell me about this clip, if there really is one? Thanks, sam

I removed mine (07 Sedan) just pull the clips will release!

I stuck it in the attic I will put it back on when I trade the car in 2010.

That bottom plastic cover does 2 positive things,

1> protects the motor from road debrise including water2> makes your car more aero dynamic at speeds + 100 mph. You may find your G will do 155 mph without it and 162 mph with it.

The bottom plastic cover has a few negatives

1> makes oil change more difficult2> traps heat/hot air - I have the Fujita short ram kit and I removed it so the air under the hood could escape easier and exchange for colder air.

It is a simple job to remove and replace. There are 14 or so 10mm small bolts. Use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet.

There is one plastic clip. It is near the front center. Use a small screwdriver to pop up the center & remove. Don't lose it. I use a cordless drill with an adapter for the 10mm socket. I have a 3 ton hydraulic jack & ramps as well as a rolling creeper to slide under the car. You'll also notice an old pink shower curtain that the wife was throwing out. It works great under the car with any minor splills or drips. The whole job should not take more than a half hour. I buy the oil filters at the dealer & try to find oil on sale (5w-30 Penzoil) at Pep Boys.

Have fun

I forgot to mention that I don't recommend leaving off the shroud because water will splash up on to your belts. Also welcome to NICO

You don't need to remove the whole thing when draining oil. Just loosen few front screws, bend the shroud down and let it hang.

I'm notorious for breaking those plastic clips. As there is only one clip in the center of the shroud, I just leave the clip attached & pivot the shroud around 180 deg. being careful not to snag the metal brackets on the back. It swings totally out of the way.

Whenever you visit the dealer request an extra one or two from the parts guy. They may not even charge you.

You just pop out the center using the edge of a screwdriver blade & it pops out. When you reattach it you just push on the center & it stays in. Piece of cake.

Most people here probably have an electric screwdriver. Just use that with a 10 mm socket attachment. It won't take more than a minute to remove the cover.

Here is a photo of my Infiniti maintenance kit minus the 3 ton hydraulic jack, ramps, jack stands and torque wrench.

Just bought a couple of factory oil filters today. They came with new crush washers at $7.08 apiece. New Air and cabin filters as well.
