I know a lot of people don't use the stock positions for their rear speakers, and so I just figured some of you could share what some of you have done.

Take out the rear panels, and make a mdf panel that you can fit 6x9" into. I still have the template to trace the shape.Kind of a crappy pic of my old car but you get the idea.

You won't get any kind of mid or bass with that unless you put a box behind them. If you put them in the sides you can also seal them up and use that airspace.

Its just a temp fix cause all my speakers were blown in the car.

If I decide to make it perm, then I was going to grab some radioshack plastic project boxes and use those as a sealer.

But I do like the side panel bit; although when you place the panel back on, I would think that you would need to cut a whole so that the sound can travel better.

My idea was and still is to, get a pair of beyma's and put it on the rear hatch cover with a nice 10 inch woofer and some 6 1/2's in the front.

Yeah, those adapters I was using on a stripped rear interior. There are adapters available to put in 6.5 in the front stock slots. If you got the cover that's a good place to get them out of the way. In my other 240 I had all the stereo stuff, but in my current 240 will never have a stereo

Could you scan in the template for the rear hatch and I will do a solid outline for it in photoshop like I did for the rear speakers

That way we will have it available for everyone; that and I think I would like to get my 4x 6.5's in this weekend... classical gas just doesn't sound right in my car right now, and that makes me a sad panda

Well, today I just went out to home depo and bought some MDF and winged it for the back panel speakers; came out all right (nowhere near a proffessional install) and it looks like it should do the trick.

I'll get the camera out and take some pictures of it tomorrow; I'm also making the side speakers (I will be using alpine type R's and mounting the tweeters in the door) and I'll be powering those with this crap crunch amp I got feeding it 2X250 (peak power) at 4 ohms.

Are those supposed to fit under the speaker cover? Doesn't say if for coupe or hatch.

Well you sure as hell won't be able to fit the factory grill over them and they can't sound any worse that what the 4x6's do.

Amen to that. You could point your 6.5" to the rear of the car and it would still sound better than the 4x6's.
