Live in Costa Rica now, have a 350Z and a 2nd gen Pathy, both sweet machines coming from a life long American built Muscle Car owner and my comment is I saw the new ad on TV last night and they showed a fantastic looking yellow Z, no numbers preceding Z. Did Nissan drop the number designation after the 370 Z and just call the new model Z ?

Just googled 2024 nissan Z and I see there was a Proto released in 2021 and the 2024 is called the Nissan Z Nismo. BIG MISTAKE not staying with the legendary number designation for new generations. The 2024 looks hot and beautiful but I will never drive anything called a friggin NISMO, sorry Nissan but I will just stay with my Sterling Silver 2006 Nissan 350Z!!

Hey glad someone is posting here. So as a LONG time Nissan person let me explain this to you. The the car is not named NISMO, that is a specific sub-model variation of the Standard Nissan Z which is the name of the car. They dropped off the numbers for the new Z after they went to the 3.0 lliter engine and I guess the marketing folks didn't want to go back to 300ZX. There were rumors about calling it 400Z but that didn't make snse with the 3.0 liter motor. Nismo stands for "Nissan Motorsports International" which is the racing/performance division of Nissan. They have used NISMO desigations on many different cars over the years including 350 and 370's which usually received more HP, bigger brakes/wheels and upgraded suspensions. There are have even been some Sentra's and others with this as well, I love my NISMO floor mats for my 05' Xterra!

For anyone that kknow Nissan this means more performance, but not every Z is a Nismo and it means more fun!

I still think they should have called it "300Z" to keep the same naming convention. But maybe this is going to be the last ICE so "Z" for the last letter. ???

Even "Z300" if anyone in the marketing department had an imagination. Ugh, +1.

The future of muscle is electric simply because electric motors and traction control are made for one another. The e-Prix is about the coolest s#it I ever saw. For the rest of us, ICE's in general won't be going anyplace. Plug-in electrics are an impractical greenie pipe-dream, and they were from the get-go. Hybrids are nice but the complexity is a price-killer. That crap is already hitting multiple fans in the real world, where things like sourcing, buildability, and infrastructure matter. The only people who don't seem to see that handwriting on the wall have names like Biden and Newsome, and the pipe dream is only continuing because they keep throwing government money at it. I hear an Earth shattering kaboom in progress on that count...

I think 300Z wasn't used as it felt like you were going backwards as we did 240-260-380-300-35-370 and then to back to 300 didn't make sense

It does make sense if you know the naming convention. Everyone knows increased displacement to increase power is not the norm anymore.
It doesn't make sense not to include the number designation. Just my thoughts.

That may be true that smaller more powerful tubro engines are now the norm but I never thought that this would be called 300Z but many were called it 400Z which would have been fine really since the car has 400HP, but someone in marketing decided on just Z.

IMHO, I agree that a rename to RZ34 would be appropriate. Would bring NICO in line with forums dedicated to the new Z (just the "Z" per Nissan)
