Well I was driving down the highway doing about..60-65 (my speedometer reads 10 mph over what it's really doing) And I notice my temp gauge start heading twords the H very rapidly. So I cranked the heater up to full blast and try to make it to a gas station to check under the hood...

About a mile down the road with the gas station in sight A cloud of white smoke begins to pour out from under the hood and now my temp gauge is Pegged at the H so I put it in neutral and quickly shut it off costing to the side of the road.

When I got it home and when it was cool enough to touch I checked all over the radiator and Find a HUGE crack in the bottom of it .. Now...

How easy is this going to be to replace and get my truck back up and running within one day and I've noticed that more and more D-21 owners are now putting electric radiator fans in their trucks and just getting rid of the clutch fan all together.

Would this be wise to do for my truck?

You can but the stock fan is fine as long as fan clutch is good and radiator is good. Mine is all stock 18 yrs old and runs fine with 170k. original fan fan clutch and radiator. Just keep fluid cleaned and flushed about every 2 yrs 24k. I live in Alabama so in summer with AC running it gets the heat abuse and runs right at midpoint. Stock is fine as good engineers designed it, just got to keep it in good order and flushed.

The electric fan isn't necessary, the only reason I slapped one on my truck was just to see firsthand what it would do. It runs quieter than a clutch fan, even a clutch fan in perfect working order isn't nearly as quiet. In Michigan, its just not as hot as other places. I would never need AC even on the hottest of days, the record high temp for Muskegon is 91 degrees, so the e-fan has no trouble keeping temp well below half, (I think people must be handicapped to ever need AC, but thats just my opinion, and I've never been outside of nice cool Michigan in my life). Also, I don't ever tow anything, so that is another reason not to need the higher performance (cooling wise) clutch fan, which really is better for cooling, way better.

As far as the radiator, its a sinch to replace IMO.

the clutch fan is fine... the only advantage i see to the electric one is that you can have it off while the engine is cold thus allowing for quicker warm ups. the downside is that it draws current from the battery taking a slight it of power from the engine... not big... but still

replacing it isn't bad either... but get a good one while you're at it.. like aluminum
