I am looking at buying a 98 240sx and on the right (driver) side in the engine, in the far right end, in the middle there seems to be the 'power steering fluid' and it bubbles..... is that normal for these cars and is that even the power steering fluid????

Thank you!

what youre probably seeing is the fluid returning to the reservoir. it looks like its bubbling on my car too...but im pretty sure you have nothing to worry about.

Its the same in my car. I always thought it was because of the vibration of the car.

big swirling bubbles is normal small bubbles like in soda could mean traped air in the system or low fluid level

Yes it is supposed to do that. No it is not power steering fluid, most nissans use atf in the ps system.

automatic transmission fluid?

Mine was a little low so I topped it off with power steering fluid. Did I hurt something?

Just drain it and put some ATF in it.

ATF... Dextron, Mercon III (the GM\Ford type of ATF) is basically the same as power steering fluid ... ATF is just a detergent oil... go ahead clean up wit it... it'll get all the grease off guaranteed

I only added just a little bit (less than fourth of a bottle). Do I really need to drain it and start over?

lol your car isn't going to explode or anything..

my power steering has been acting up from an extremely weird pressure related leak underneath the resevoir, and i thought the bubbling was a problem from that.

i added power steering fluid which helped and made the problem temporarily go away. in my case, i think it really needs to be flushed and i'll be getting on that soon.

and i also got power steering fluid and Dexron III auto transmission fluid which i've dumped some into it. lol, i don't know if it matters between the Dexron III high mileage or regular.

The bubbles is probably just air getting in your system due to that leak. Don't worry about it.
