Should I use the FX35 rims?

I bought my car (G35x '07) this year and it had summer wheels from FX35 (18x8, et40, 35lbs)+Toyo Proxes 4 245/45 and the winter stock set (17" stock).

Yesterday I put the winter set with the stock rims - and it's a BIG difference in ride, so much smoother and I think it's because of decreased unsprung masses (35lbs vs ~22lbs for each rim).

So I don't know if I should use my FX35 18" rims for the next spring/summer if they are so overweighted, but they look SO SEXY on my sedan (black powdercoated on my black car ).

What do you think, is it ok to use them (i like them much ), maybe I'll just buy some softer tire, probably 225/50/18?

As a comparison, the 2007 18" front rims are appx 23.7 lbs while the rears are 22.4 lbs. There are better OEM wheels for the G which are lighter than the 35lb FX wheels. Of course, with the G35x, you would have to use 4 fronts or 4 rears if you are to go that route but the end result will be almost 50lbs less unsprung weight.

Here it is. I like them MUCH. Though, maybe it is possible to buy similiar rims, that would weight about 22lbs, even less than stock 18"... I don't know, the roads are very bad here and such unsprung mass cause problems to the suspension (my left spring is wet on 36k miles only).

Just get a set of 18" coupe wheels like these I had on my Maxima. They are a similar style to the ones you have today and weigh in at appx 23.5lbs each:

They are 18x8 and were on the earlier G coupes.

Well, I found the rims I like: AEZ Excite Dark

The weight of the one rim is 29lbs. Is it normal?

Well, they are black and the red triangles are just near a tire, so I think it would make the rims to look bigger - I mean the spokes from the center of the tire will look connecting directly to the tire with the red triangles!

P.S. The question is, does anyone except me like them (remember I have black obsidian)?

If I paint the calipers it would look something like that:

The harsh ride quatlity comes from the lower profile tires on the FX wheels not the weight of the wheel. The 17's have a taller sidewall that has more flex, and absorbs more of the road then the shorter sidewalls of the 18's.

So even if you go with another 18" wheel you will still have the same hash ride quality.

I have a hard time believing that 1/2" of sidewall is going to make that much of a difference in ride quality.

Maybe the 1/2" in combination with very different sidewall stiffness might do it, but not just the 1/2" alone. Also the extra 12lbs of weight will cause the rebound to be less quick meaning that each deviation in the road will be more pronounced. Wouldn't you say?

OP,

The FX rims are ugly on your G I my opinion. I second Matt's idea of getting 4 front or 4 rear 18s from a coupe and powder coating those.

Nate.

The shorter the sidewall the siffer it is. This is for performance/handleing. The taller sidewall is for comfort. Corvettes do not come w/ 75 series sidewall just like Cadillac Sedan D'ville's done come on 45 series.

The weight of the tire/wheel has little effect on rebound. The valving in the shock and the spring rate all have to do with the rebound.

Well, I decided to go with another rim design, that would fit round-shaped infiniti design better, it's:

Tenzo Racing Type-M 18x8, 22.6lbs=10.2kg

MATTE BLACK (rear wheel):

BRONZE (front wheels), MATTE BLACK (rear wheels, they would look darker in life)

BRONZE (front wheels), MATTE CHARCOAL (rear wheels)

So I want to decide which color to pick, my girlfriend likes BRONZE most, but I like CHARCOAL a little bit more, but not sure...

http://www.tenzoracingsports.eu/felgi.html#typemv1 - all the combos (don't tell me to buy it with the strip, hate it, lol ).

Sorry. Still not liking the wheels.

The smooth lines on the G really beg to have smooth simple wheels. Going with complex ones like the one you posted just don't do it for me.

I personally love dark bronze on black Gs.

It's not nice to criticise without suggestions.

Sticking with Tenzo---

DC-6 Version 2

18x8 with the 35 offset gives you just about flush fitment

Downside: Weighs 24.6 lbs (not a huge increase)

Thanks for your ideas!

I think I feel the smooth lines of G too, but the spokes on these Tenzo's shaped rather roundly and don't forget about the grill's "swords" design.

So now, I'm just deciding which color to take: matte bronze, matte charcoal or titanium (, for example).

So you've convinced me that they'd look good on my G, but what about yours? hehehe

They're nice, still not my taste.

I think the bronze is the way to go because of contrast (not a big fan of blacked out cars). Just got to be careful that the bronze is the one you want. Or get them, and have them powder coated to your specs

Debating with my girlfriend, we both made a decision to buy....

....tra-ta-ta-ta....

Charcoal Matte wheels!

...applause!....

because Bronze will make my car look like Subaru, which are the only ones riding here on Bronze rims

I would get them in Matte Black, but my previous rims (from FX35) were Matte Black and I want something new

Tastes are always different. I'd personally like a set of 20" MRR GT-1's with hyper silver and polished lip on my G37

^^like that but with hyper silver insert instead of chrome

Will my old rims from FX35, which are 18"x8", ET40 fit G37 coupe, which has stock 19"?

FX35 18" rims will fit on a G37 coupe. They will not rub either the suspension components behind the hub or the fender because the offset is nearly the same and the wheel is more narrow compared to G37 OEM. Because the G37 coupe uses wider and staggered rims the FX35 rims are probably only suitable for winter tires.
