Guys, I have a Lingenfelter 383 Corvette w/500hp. Showen in the picture below. I always like to get something new and different. I meet a local guy selling his 1997 GTS Skyline Ser. 2. I barely drive my Vette maybe 30 miles a month if that. This Skyline has 68k miles and selling for 19k. He states the car is Registered in the State of Florida and has a Florida title. Is it worth the risk in your opinion. I have done A TON of reading on this forum the loopholes bla bla....stir crazy there is so much on this topic. My car

The Skyline I am considering...

I like to be legal in all things that I do and do not want to give up $$ if I have to give up the car if it is found to be illegal. Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks guys...

Not sure...doubt the Vette will go up in value, this one is not the most desirable year...not my favorite one, it was to hold me over since I sold my 720hp C5 Corvette with Kandy paint.. Which I WILL buy back one day. I like the rarity of the Skyline just not the legal issues. Jon

Cant run a car fax on any privately imported car, it won’t come up. Cars that were intended to be sold in the US will be on car fax because the info is given to car fax by the manufacturer. And car fax doesn’t accept non 17 digit vin #, and JDM cars don’t have 17 digits. That car has an Fl title; I know cause im the one who titled it for the owner. And it’s not a rebuilt, salvage or assembled from parts title. its a clean fl title with its ECR33XXXXXX vin #

Even though the Vette may not appreciate in value, I would hold on to it, just because it's a Lingenfelter. And you would actually be loosing money in the trade. Yeah, it's a Skyline, but if you really think about it...over here, that particular model can be picked up for about $8K. I think your Vette is worth more than that. Plus, as you mentioned, legal problems.

If it was a MotorEx titled car, 50 state street legal, than possibly. But at the moment...I would hold out.

I'm with Neal. I wouldn't do it. The Vette is worth more, I'd hold out for a better skyline.

but if you want that one, sell your corvette for how much it's really worth (I'm sure you'd find a buyer) and buy the sky and have some change left over.

Thanks Celm...nice to know your around if questions arise.

Others, Thanks for the mature answers and insight. The owner only thinks my car is worth about 8k and his car is 19k. Big difference to me.

My car has about 30k in upgrades on it with only 30k miles on the motor.

If anyone else has suggestions feel free to add. Thanks,Jon

+1. I'd keep the Lingenfelter. That model of skyline would be slow in comparison too.

Yes, I know its slower...a lot...I am kinda used to power...here is my old 720hp C5 that I miss so much...sorry I like to show it off since it was a big part of my life and will get it back one day.

Here is video on the dyno when we were tuning it.http://s7.photobucket.com/albu...d.flv

Now that is SEXY as hell! You definitely should try to get that back. Don't waste your time with that GTS-t. If you really like the Skylines and you're balling like that, get a GTR.

Just my personal taste...but I would hold out for a GTR, and a titled one at that. Not a big fan of trading a top of the line tuner that costs mucho $$$ (ligenfelter), for a average skyline (gts)...even though it is a skyline, and a beautiful car. ...and that C6 is nasty, try to get that thing back (from a non-corvette fan also).

If you a looking for a perfect, legal, turn key r33 GTR, contact Ross @ Ripp Modifications in NY, he says he has one in FL that he is looking to sell.Phone # : (718)-815-1313

Good luck...Rich

lol...boy the skyline world is VERY small...lol...

The evo is not what we all think it is.After putting it on the lift, here's what I found:clutch was beyond shot...actually took 3 people to break it loose.car was cut in half...yup, that's right, brazed right over the brake linescame without tail lights, no shifter knob, nothing in truck, no front bumper.someone seriously hacked this car together...ugh! Luckily, it was cheap, and now I know why...lesson learned.
