So I have a 1997 240sx with basic mods, tein coils, p45r wheels, exhaust, intake etc, with original KA with overall 102K miles. Pretty clean car some scratches but not too bad.

This guy offered me a trade for his 1990 300ZX 2+2 TT swapped, greddy fmic, greddy profec b, greddy turbo timer, etc etc. The 300 got 62K on the chassis and he claims 34K on the TT swap. Its an auto though, and he said that the torque converter is going out, I drove in it and the trans shifts kinda hard/weird so I guess its the torque conv...

Anyway he offers me a straight up trade, but looks like im going to have to spend another 500 to a grand to fix the trans on the tt. I always wanted a 300ZX, but being a student and all, is it really worth the money/trouble? My 240 is reliable as is, Idk about the 300's.

No, Plus The Kouki Is Rarer.Unless You Flip It And Buy Another Kouki. But Flipping Cars While The Economy Is On The Fritz Is Risky.

Keep the 240. Sounds like a ton of trouble and money.

Keep the 240 its 7 years newer. Plus the other one needs work. Also where do you find a engine from 1990-1996 with 34K miles, its at least 13 years old. Plus its a swapped 300ZX so its got the R200 not the R230 and the weaker axles.

fun in the snow? have you ever driven a tt 300zx? they can be tricky on a rainy day. 2+2 is sexy as that wild snorlax sig some dude has on here and add an automatic transmission onto this deal... i hope he has about 3k on his half. 2+2 is the ultimate fail.

First off to answer your question no.

But in defense of my baby who ever said Z's were unreliable?

people like 2+2's for track use I've heard. They look bad tho + auto =(

Do it. Why in the world would you want a 240 over 300? And 2+2 plus the TT is the ultimate combination! Not to mention the ZX has less miles on the chassis & motor. If THAT'S ALL that's wrong with the car, do it. If you suspect otherwise, have a professional shop/knowledgible person inspect it for you.

But again, if that's all that's wrong with it definately.....Picking a 240 over a 300TT, what's gotten into people these days?!?

in fact ur car in CA would go for about at least 8 stock kouki .so if u were to trade, i reccomend selling ur kouki then buying the 300zx so u have extra money to do the swap and replace all fluids

I will be going to see the car with some of my Z friends haha, to check it out last time.

Car has some good parts on it though, so everything else should be fine (besides the trans) If so, I can get a used trans for 300 from jhot, and ill be set as far as 2+2 TT and the ugliness, yes they aren't that pretty stock, but if you lower then, put some nice wheels, they will look sexy

I'd be inclined to do it and daily it, if it were me. Probably because I have 2 240's. But, I think having a 300+hp 240 is more fun than a 300+hp z32 thanks to the power to weight ratio.

comparing a 2+0 tt to a pignose sr, is a DIFFERENT comparison altogether. i would choose the 2+0 tt over any swapped 240.

Keep the 240, Trust me.

1. The 300 is an Auto2. It has supposedly been "swapped" and those TT motors are risky, sounds like trouble.3. Its heavier, and sound like a lot of trouble with the transmission starting to go out.4. Its a 1990, The FIRST year of that model, be ready to fix things.

if you have something to drive while you do some repairs then go for it

make sure you can afford insurance on it (if your young) i know thats wat kept me from the 300z's

personally, id take a TT over a kouki anyday, im not that big of a fan of s14s... but thats just my preference

My is auto as well its been swapped 100% and the engine is from some import company, so it shouldn't have more then the advertised "40-60K" milesit does not smoke runs very strong (last time I went ha)yea the rest I agree, trouble is trouble but I can get the trans for 400 and I can put it in no problem so... but then again who knows it might be more then the trans (other problems and stuff)I mean my 240 isnt perfect either, dent on rear quarter panel, oil pan gasket is leaking, egr is done, and other stuff. The 300 is 9/10 exterior and interior is mint. As far as it being 1990 yes its old, but the chassis only got 60K miles on it, it also got new brakes

I will go take a look at one more time and decide

240s are sexy especially the S14 which is not too common on the road..and 300ZX are OK but common and a 6cyl is gonna eat yo gas

man, if you guys are getting 20 mpg with your ka, something wrong or you are shifting at 6k all the time. you should be in the 25-27 mpg range. time for a tuneup or something. na vg should be just about under the ka mpg, and the tt vg is around 12-15 hitting the boost.

i dont see how you get 25-27 unless its all highway seriously thats what they were rated for when they came off the line

add 19 years of cheap gas

even a tune up and your not gonna get those numbers again im pushing 180K miles on my original single cam

it runs a bit dirty but it pulls hard (and no i dont run it to the redline)

Seriously. Keep the freakin' kouki. I dunno how that is even a question after looking at those two cars. If you have the go-fast bug, just make some extra money and add a little zip to the kouki. '

-1 for the 300zx
