New guy here. I was considering asking the dealer to swap my 19 inch 40s for 45 series 18s to help the ride a bit. Yeah I know, it's not supposed to be a cushy sedan and that the lower profile tires probably contribute to the car's oustanding handling. But we've got some nasty roads up here and I thought perhaps a slightly taller tire would offer a better ride.

Comments from the experts welcome!

Valenti -

Welcome aboard!

I would think the 18's will offer you a bit more protection against the harsh roads there in WA.

If you're interested, I will have a set of OEM 18's with new tires available in a couple weeks, and would LOVE to swap for some OEM 19's...

GregI may take you up on that offer (which tires on on those 18-inch rims? How many miles, etc?

Related question: So I've read (with some concern) about cupping and feathering problems with G coupes. The posts seem to refer to the 18 inch wheels. Is this an issue for the 19s as well? And is this a common problem or just for some folks with certain tires under certain conditions?

Thanks!

They have Michelin Pilots, 245/40ZR18 I believe... A bit more sidewall, a bit beefier tire. They should have about 3-4K miles on them by the time I drive it home from Atlanta.

I'm told the cupping / feathering is a car issue rather than a wheel size issue, and I'd be VERY surprised if it was as common as it sounds.

The issues with cupping and feathering have been more in lines with specific car suspension set-up. There seemed to have been some issues with the amount of rear camber in some cars. This has resulted in some odd tire wear. I had this problem with the 17's on my coupe. Since I have adjusted the set-up, I have had no problems with odd tire wear.

RyanThanks for that tidbit. One would "think" the dealers would know this and make sure the camber/caster/alignment is set up properly to begin with. An ounce of prevention here would save a lot of customer grief down the road (pun intended...)
