Well if you plan on dragging it at a track I would advise against it. Our local track won't let anyone with shaved handles race as it is a safety issue.

I would advise against it. Have you ever seen the effects of shaving cream on paint?

It depends on what you plan to do with your car. If you want to race it or build it for speed, then no. If you want it strictly for looks, then sure.

As for it being illegal on the street, I guess it depends where you are because in my area there is no problem with it. We've shaved at least 8 guys handles in the past 3 years and none of them have ever told us about having trouble with the law, and the last time I was pulled over they wanted to search my car (My Accord) and I had to explain how to operate the door remote.

I don't get it. Why would anyone want their door handles shaved?

It just gives a smooth look to the side of the car, no door handle to break up the body lines/curves. It serves no purpose, doesn't save weight, or anything like that. Its got gadget factor, my door is open so I can dive in when its raining without having to grab a door handle, but thats not why I shaved them from my Accord.

Its a show thing, something to be different, something to draw attention, and just something else that you can do to your car. Its like tail light conversions, front end conversions, custom paint, custom interiors, custom rims, most body kits, most wings, etc. Its simply for looks and personal enjoyment.

But, some front end conversions (like the s13 one) reduce weight.;)

You could probably get away with calling it rice if it was something new. This has been around since AT LEAST the 1950s. Hell, my dad is the one that told me about it when I was a little kid. They used to shave all the chrome off the cars and at the time the handles were chrome. If you look back at what cars used to look like, there were TONS of chrome moldings and trim running all over the cars. They would remove as much as they could leaving usually just the bumpers and grill and sometime window moldings and this cleaned the body lines up amazingly. They would weld/lead the fenders on, french in the headlight/taillights, put taillights from different cars on, run duals, raise or lower the car depending on the current style, chop the tops, deck the hoods, suicide the doors, and still beef up the motors. It wasn't all about speed, it wasn't all about style. It was about both. The looks got you laid and the speed got you some respect.

I like the look of shaved door handels myself.I would not call it rice for the reason stated above. If the price is right and it is well done I say go for it.You may look at performance mods first though. If you can get some go fast goodies for the same price I would do that first.;)

So how much HP can be gained from a shaved door handle :D? I'm just kidding. My comment wasn't meant to insult you or your dad. I was just joking with deftdrummer since he thought my question was dumb... Anyway, if aznS13drifter proceeds to have his door handles shaved then he'll definitely have one unique looking 240sx.

Yeah, Decah makes the motorized Lambo doors, just shave the handles, install their kit, push the button, and the door pops out and a motor makes it go up on its own.

as you have probably noticed 95% of NICO members go performance over show. especially for the first couple mods of the car. and pretty much all of the members are anti-rice so when new members first post something like getting a body kit or altezzas we tend to feel that a perfectly good 240 may get ruined. i personally dont mind shaving the door handles although id never to it. i just think some of the basic performance mods should be done before major exterior mods are done. other than that, welcome to NICO, theres an abundance of useful information on here which can often be found through the search botton

do a conversion to a push button or something cool like that...that way you still have external handles but they're "custom"

everyone wins that way...lol like a button on the bottom of the mirror or something hidden like that...
