This is for a 2009 Altima with a CVT. I wasn't sure if I should post this in the forum for that specific series, and I thought that this might be General enough to go in the Altima General Discussions board. Please move it if I though wrong.
So a few weeks ago, I wanted to play around with Bluetooth OBDII readers. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying a cheap one from China.
While I was driving after plugging it in, the Service Engine Soon light came on and the car started behaving weirdly, like it was in a limp mode of some sort. I pulled into a driveway, turned the car off, and removed the Bluetooth OBDII reader.
All has been 100% fine since then, except the Service Engine Soon light is still on. When AutoZone read the codes, they found U0140 and U0101. (lost communication with body control and lost communication with transmission control unit).
The dealership does not want to clear these codes. They say that, if cleared, we would lose all the data about these codes. They asked to do one hour of diagnosis. I'm not sure I buy it.
It seems to me that these codes are not something that are an issue now, they were only triggered when I had the malfunctioning reader in. It seems to me that: Somehow, the other reader was spewing garbage onto the communication lines of the car. When this was happening, it led to the TCM and the body control losing communication. When nothing is spewing garbage, as in all of the time now, everything is fine, no issues. I don't think there are currently communication issues with the TCM or body control. If there were theses, the car would show it, and it isn't showing anything.
Anyways, I now have a better OBDII reader. Do I have anything to lose by clearing these codes and seeing if they come back, or was the dealer correct?
Thanks!
