I'm thinking this is what is giving me a loose feeling in the front end of my 240sx. They are what PDMracing calls TC Rods.

Looks like replacement is *very* straight forward.

Yeah I replaced these bushings, they made a big difference! You look liked you need them worse than i did. It stiffens up the steering and makes it a lot more responsive.

Ewww those are some nasty looking leaky rusty tension rods.

When the oem's leak thats definately time to replace them. Mine after 5 - 6 yrs had minor cracking and no seepage, but I pressed them out for new ones. I would get a set of energy suspensions bushings and do those (my nissan tech best friend pressed then out in a few seconds each, when I brought them to him) versus getting the pdm units. Just sand and repaint the rods themselves hehe, oh and the brackets too while your at it. If your TR bushings look that bad I wonder what the LCA bushings look like :)

Whats involved with pressing in new bushings? I'd love to be able to do that myself rather than pay for an entire new TC Rod.

I can easily remove the existing TC Rod, sand it down and spray it a nice colour. I should be able to get those bushings from NAPA I would imagine.

I paid Midas $25 to press my old ones out and press my new Nismo ones in. The Nismo are hard rubber, stiffer than stock, but not as harsh or long lasting as poly bushings.

One thing I will probably order is new tie rod ends though. I do have a shimmy in my front end when going over bumps n stuff, and just to be on the safe side, i think i should replace them.

Luke: When you say those bushings, do you mean get them from NAPA?

o sorry, i ordered mine from http://www.pdm-racing.com They sell the whiteline polyurethane t/c rod bushings. You can also buy the new rods with the bushings already in them there too, if you need new rods...

Just get the bushings, you dont need new rods. Those things are thick and heavy. If you have the money I would suggest moving to pillowball tension rods from Tein. The eliminate any slop in the steering but make the ride a bit "responsive" at times.

I don't want to sound like a cheapo here but, from PDMracing I can get a factory replacement TC Rod with a factory bushing already installed for like 3 bucks more than what just a whiteline bushing costs.

The method to my madness is I live in a small but very rich oil city, everything costs top dollar here for the littlest amount of work. (cuz everyone got money to blow) By the time I paid a place to stamp those new whiteline bushings in, I'd probably end of paying for half of the total again.

Is there really that much of an advantage running those whiteline bushings instead of the factory ones?

A little late on this one but that price is for each reconditioned rod.... So 43$ x 2 = 86$ vs. the poly bushings at 42$ + 20 -30ish (free in my case) for the press in = 62$ - 72$ and a more responsive ride :)

Energy suspensions tension rod bushings cost less and are the same quality as the whiteline ones, only a different color (thats what I used by the way)...
