i recently turned 16 and decided to hunt down a 240 sx for my first vehicle. the problem is i wrecked it a couple months ago (dont worry its ok now), but the stock intake was completly crushed. i dont know much about cars but once the air enters the intake there is a tube that leads down to an air box, it didnt seem like it served any purpose so i havent replaced it, sorry no pics available. but should it b replaced or not?

that's a weird question but I'll not redicule you since I like your username.

You probably shoudl replace it and you can probablt get it replaced cheap by going to the junk hard or finding someone locally on this forum that wants to get rid of theirs. Reason I suggest you chnage it is because you're either sucking up all the dirt/sand and who knows what else into your engine or you're not sucking up enough air and causing air/fuel inbalance.

like i said i dont know much about cars, but it doesnt seem like there is any purpose for holding air in a box it wouldnt really lead to the engine. once the air enters it splits, one tube leads back to the engine and one leads down to the box (a dead end) but i guess it is cheap to replace and its worth it to not destroy my engine seeing as its on a rebuilt title as it is

oh? so it is not the filter but only the box that';s crushed?

the stock filter's filtration is working WITH the box... you should either fix the damn thing or just get an intake with a K&N filter

the box you speak of proabbly help to keep some dust/dirt out while reduce the air sucking noise

I was going to do it but his name is pretty unique, it doesn't have 240sx, s13/14/15, 180sx, silvia, drift, slide in there at all

snypes, that other box that's crushed is located in the lower part of the front fender, hidden behind the wheel liner? if so, that's just a resonator... to quiet the engine a bit.

heck people rip off that y-pipe & resonator box when modifying their intakes/ adding an aftermarket Injen intake w/ cone filter... or they add an air port /sleepy eyes mod to introduce more air to the intake like this person:

if that's the case, u don't really need it if you're going to upgrade your intake system. I took it off when i read it on 240sx.org but was too loud for the NICOtots-- so back in it goes w/ the original airbox/filter.
