Should I replace my rings?

bamco will hot tank and hone for cheap, so I have this 190k ka24de that still has the factory crosshatching in the cyls. Its in great shape, getting a new timing chain and oil pump, all new gaskets, then its going to see 10 psi.my brother said he thinks I should get it hot tanked and honed, and put in new rings. What do you guys think?

and if I should, can I use the chromoly rings off an altima?

well, they have the same part number at advance auto, so I assume they work.

Sounds like it's in good shape. I wouldn't mess with it.

yeah, I thought that too, but I'm worried about blowby... even though the factory bores still have the crosshatching, the rings have still been through 190k+ of abuse...and 10 psi might be just enough to make them die, and I would like to get everything taken care of while I have the engine out.I also heard the S14 rings are a little thicker than s13. maybe I should try getting stock bore s14 pistons and rings?does anyone have any suggestions here?if your suggestion is to "leave it alone" then tell me why, cause I'm a little nervous boosting on a motor with that kind of mileage, regardless of the shape its in (which overall, is excellent).

I would replace them, for the peace of mind, if you don’t and they blow then you’ll have to replace them anyway (and this time it will be much harder since the engine is in the car) I mean, do you really want to drive and everytime fearing your rings will blow?

of course there are people boosting on very high milage motor (slos13) but i would only do that if the motor was already in the car. since you have it dissasembled already i would say new pistons and rings would be some nice insurance

ok, which ones do you think I should use? like I said, I heard the altima ones had nice chomoly rings. My brother told me thinks I can get chomoly ring kits for my car (cause he can for his).I have also heard (and only heard, never saw any evidence) that the s14 ring lands and rings were a little thicker than s13.does anyone have any sites that sell rering kits?
