okay here's the deal.this guy wants 1200 for a 1989 240 with a 1993 dohc motor in it.my uncle and i went to look at it in the middle of a tornado warning lol so it was raining pretty hard and it was dark. So he didn't get the perfect look at the car.here is what we know.1)its primed, not painted.2)the clutch will probably need replacing soon.(they didn;t tell my uncle but he can tell by how far the clutch is sticking out?)3)its haveing an overheating problem they said they fixed, but all they did was pull thermostat out.4)the lights in the dash don't come on so i cant see speed and rpms at night5)the check engine light come on, but uncle doesn't think that what they told us is true. they said its common for that in 240s. my uncle said we'll have to do electrical work cause the light is not only on, its flickering rapidly......

so what do ya'll say?he told me he wouldn't pay them more that 7-800 dollars for it.

Well 1200 isnt a horrible deal but you should def go back and look at it one more time and check for rust.. if there is to much of it then you shouldn't even consider buying it unless you know how to weld... but from what you say it sounds like the car has way to many electrical problems which unless you know exactly what you are doing s a pita to fix... I'd pass if i was you.

yeah, for that your gonna need a bit of money and some time, to get that all fixed out.they are minor problems, as far as the paint and engine light go, but they seem to be fixable. i agree w/ him, just lowball them, try to get it like 900-1000 thats what id do,

my dumbass self paid 2400 for a battery drained car. didnt know that till i came home. i swear i probably put like 1000 into the car... and even the dumbass auto store couldnt even find out about my short circuit that i found out today w/ a damn test light.

but good luck man, 240sx are hard to come around in a nice condition.

Interior dont mean s***.

We cant give that stuff away out here in SoCal.Last night a guy was at the meet offering full, mint coupe interior for free.

no takers, lol

I would offer no more than 900.that engine probably isnt wired right.over heating isnt a good sign.clutch is a pain if your a noob.

i would offer $700 and then go up to $800 and stop there...if they dont sell it for that price then it wasnt meant to be. You will eventually find another probably in better condition too.

I wouldn't offer more then 500 for that car the way it is. Reason being is more then likely the guy is trying to hide something by pulling the t-stat to cure overheating, you will possibly need a new clutch and will have many electrical issues. Imo replaceing a complete harness interior/ exterior from a 91 and up 240 is the best way to solve most hack job wiring issues with that swap, unless you like troubleshooting other peoples cruddy work

If they pulled out the thermostat to "Fix" the heating prob, they are prob hiding something. I remember that my first 240 would take a long time to heat up and reach normal operating temperature. I didn't think it was a big thing and I only drove from school and work, no probs. But when I took it on the freeway on long trips, it would heat up like crazy when I would exit the freeway.

So I go to replace the thermostat AND THERE ISNT ONE!!!!

So long story short, I replaced (put what wasn't there) the thermostat, it turned out that car had a blown headgasket!!!

Exactly my point! The guy sounds like he put a band aid on a much bigger issue, now he is trying to unload it onto the first person who wants a 240 so badly that he is willing to buy it. This car is only worth anything if the shell is immaculate. No matter what with the issues this car has you will be investing at least $1000 dollars to fix. g/l

haha.yeah me and the dude got into a bit of an argument. he keeps trying to tell me how great of a deal it is for a 240 compared to other peoples' prices. I said yeah compared to the dumbasses who price theirs $4000 over its worth. If i havent found anything before too long and he realizes i'm not giving in for that s*** , maybe he'll finally f***in gimme what i want.

Sounds like a car i wouldnt spend nemore than 500 on....def go back and check for rust because depending on how long its been primered and how much it rains by you, w/o a proper sealer that primer will suck up ALL of that water/moisture...electrical gremilins is a whole different monster in itself....id pass for now look around a bit more

found out the electrical issue.the ECU was for the original '89 SOHC KA24 and they didn't put a new ECU in when they swapped to the DOHC KA24. so the computer was bringing up the ok code(55) and the check engine light would flicker cause it couldn't find the issue. lolso now the car might be worth 700 lolbut my uncle found an eclipse he wants me to look at. its a 93..not too fond of that body style. but i migh look into it. plus i hear they're a pain in the a** to work on. but i also found a 97 civic ex coupe with 126000 miles on body w/ only 58,000 on motor. he wants 3500 for it but may take 3000 flat. there's really no more 240s left to buy around my area.
