I am putting 1990 Q45 seat controls on my Q45 because that's the way they should have been all along.

But is it worth painting them or just keeping them black all around:

Sorry about the bad Microsoft Paint job.

Do you think they would have continued the 1990 Q45 seat controls if they weren't sued by MB?

What do you think the 1990 seat controls design on a 1994 with power head rests would look like? I think it would have looked great.

What color are you going to paint? Matching the dash or the door? Personally I like the black but I can see how a shade of brown would look nice.

Well I would paint it the same color as the door panel (Beige) like the current seat control is painted.

And Mercedes Benz had the same seat controls on one of there POS cars and they sent Infiniti a letter (According to Jesda) and infiniti changed them.

I'd probably leave them black. They look fine that way IMO.Another option would be to try to find a woodgrain vinyl applique with a pattern that matches the shifter surround.

O no I am sorry my interior has no wood, its a 1993 with a 1994 interior colors, And that above was the only pic I could find.

But I have thought about leaving them black as well just that it would like somewhat weird.

Ahh, I figured you just swapped in the wood grain shifter. I see.

i would probably leave them, at least at first. there's enough black here and there in the interior that they shouldn't stand out. if they do you can always go back and paint them.

Yea I will just leave them and see how it goes, as for replacing the back one to make them black I don't see how those will match up.

OK Got the controls, I installed three the rear driver one has a burn bulb so I have to find another window switch (Yes I know there replaceable, But there a ***** to do unless your good at replacing them).

Here is what they look like installed:

Here is the stock look:

They take some getting use too, but I think its a love it or hate it look.

I think I would spray them dk. brown so as to pick the dash.

I forgot how good they look! Had them on my 91.

id keep em.. in my opinion a little more contrast is better than trying to match...

its like showing up to the office when you think you put on black socks and they turn out to be blue.... Thats happened a LOT to me, fortunately when you work with engineers theres always someone that made a worse mistake that day!

Now that I've seen the black control trim on tan leather I think the black should be reserved for the darker color interiors.

I'm not fond of the penguin (black/white) interiors either. IMHO the trim would look better in the original tan color or at least closer to the dashboard brown. Home Depot. Lowes, etc have a huge selection of spray can colors that will get you real close to OEM if that's what you choose to do.

Interestingly, I bought a 90 in the maroon/burgundy/wine color scheme, last year, strictly for parts (having 10 acres of lob lolly pines to store it/them on!). I have always appreciated the intuitive design of MB seat controls, and have always detested the design of those controls on my 92 Q driver! It, like yours, is also the cream over tan scheme. From what I can gather, all of these controls/switches on the 90 Q still work, and, I just may swap them out also! As I mentioned, I was somewhat astounded at the still great shape of the 90's leather and paint, considering the obvious neglect while it sat on a BMW dealer's lot, due to mechanical issues (that dreaded guide issue??????????). I would venture that it would take upwards of $10K to make the car road worthy again and, not worth that! But, Boy would I have loved to have had a go in it when it was new and broken in!

BTW, off again to Der Vaterland next week where I will have a CLS 550 at my disposal so I can play with the seat controls at 200 + kph! When not haunting the autobahnen, I will be again trying to drink up all of their bier production, always seeming to fail miserably when attempting in the past! In Ireland a few months back, and after all of those Guinness pints, I know why the brewery is so huge (and a fun tour to whet your thirst)!

Probst!

The New Mexico Highway Patrol does a fine job of keeping the speeds down out in the open desert. I was one of their victims. They can see you coming for 20 miles but you can't see them until you're about 5 miles away. By then it's too late.

I've been looking for some burgandy leather for a couple of repairs in my 90Q and you've got a junker 90Q with burgandy leather in your backyard. Hmm? I sent you an email.

Email not here, yet, and, the "buyer" from Lagos found it, so you may want to try again!

The 90 Q sits on my acreage on the east coast, so shipping costs could be prohibitive out to you.

Per the NM state patrol. It is sort of the unwritten law there, that, on rural roadways (what else in NM?), there is no "real" speed limit, the distances making such limits unrealistic....at least if you are running NM plates! I have routinely cruised in excess of 100 mph on I-25 between Las Cruces and Albequerque, and never even heard the detector go off! Now, THBS, if you were running California plates, and down on I-10, you need know that NMicans feel about the same about Californians as they do Texans! So BEWARE!
