I really need some quick input on weather or not I should buy this 89 240se for $500.

Right now I am driving a 05' STi. Its the dopest ride ever, and I love it more than my wife, jk. BUT i do not love babying the car and not being able to modify it in fear of loosing resale value, or taking it on long drives because of miles...etc. new cars sux in some aspects! My previous rides were SOCH turbo civics, lot of fun but no umpf... anyways I'm buying a 240 now and selling the STi.

OK, this is what I need to know, I found one in some guys front yard, runs... but has a busted bearing in the crank case (i think). He says it runs but smokes a ton. BUT everything else works, no dents, straight lines just needs some major TLC. I plan to rebuild the motor or swap in any 240 i pick up, so the engine problems arnt really a concern of mine. Should I get this 89, turbo the stock motor (built of course), SR20DET, RB?? What would be the drawbacks of using the stock motor as a base instead of the SR20?

I gotta pick this thing up on Sunday, so please comment if you got an opinion. (i'm gonna try and give this old trucker $300, see if he takes it).

I'll post pics on Sunday.

Lets try this thread again.

1. PLEASE research, there is a TON of info regarding the KA-T, SR, CA, etc. out there within a single search.

2. Don't put alot of faith into people's opinions. They are opinions for a reason.

3. Try to experience what you want to build to get an idea of what you are getting into. There are alot of turbo 240's all over the nation. Often times the number one mistake is assumptions and letting your mind outrun reality (ie. people that play the numbers game).

4. Get the car and work through it and your budget. You have to know where you are starting from to produce some idea of what you can do as far as options are concerned.

5. If I sound condecending it's because I just deleted 2 pages of worthless moronic commentary that normally adorns these types of threads. It gets old and the useless commentary doesn't help you any.

Welcome to NICO.
