Just purchased an 03 M45 with 36K on it and runs and looks great. The factory warranty on it expires in July and I have noticed that mine burns about 3/4 a quart every 2000 miles. Not really a big deal but definetly not something I'm sure I want to deal with for who knows how long. I want to know if the dealer has any REAL solution to this problem? I have read several other posts and it seems like it's just a waste of time to bring it in for this issue and i'm not sure I want someone ripping apart the motor anyway considering she runs perfect besides that...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance auto...

They will not do anything such as take anything apart. They will change your oil and mark the dipstick and have you come back in 1000 miles or so and go from there. Most likely they wont do anything else and 3/4 every 2000 miles is WELL within Nissan's spec for oil burning. The only thing that you will get accomplished by doing this is having it down on paper that you/they acknowledged there is SOME oil loss occuring.Dimitri

Yes. The general consensus seems to be that anything worse than 1 qt every 1000 miles will get an engine swap (if you push Infiniti), but nothing else above that.

I wouldn't worry about it. My 03 has 36k miles and runs smooth as a babies bottom. I had a 93 Rx7 TT that did the same thing. Used about a quart every 1500 miles. Yes it is a Rotary, but still engine ran fine for 120K, until I sold it.

well i checked the oil again today and i'm down another quart in just 600 miles! I set an appointment at infiniti of lisle in illinois which is where i used to have my G35 serviced at.

there gonna give me a loaner to use while they check my car. the girl on the phone says they'll check for leaks even though I told her it is definetly not leaking!

I have a feeling there gonna call me a few hours after i drop it off and tell me there is no leaks and to come back in 500 miles so they can check consumption...

Any thoughts on this again?

Let us know what they say.How can you be so sure there is no leaks? Keep in mind that there is a sound deadening pan or belly pan under the engine compartment that will hold oil IF it were to actually make it to there. The engine gets so hot that when oil leaks onto the block most of the time it wont make it to the floor or belly pan unless you have a hole or crack or something like that.Keep us updated

PS how is Lisle's service? I bought my M from there last year and I do my own services on my car but I have a few minor things that I noticed on the car that they should take care of for me.
